I am a transfer student looking to transfer out of my current school. I have endlessly researched different schools and academics and so fourth. Now that I have selected my schools, how do I pay for it. Here is my situation,

-At my current school I have a nice scholarship but things are not working out (various reasons for transferring)
-I have a residency in Illinois
-My parents said they would put in around $10,000 per year toward my education
-I am looking at a few schools in my area and I have price quotes for them here....
- University of Iowa= $28,331
- Eastern Illinois University= $13,838
- University of Toledo= $13,583
-I am open to any suggestions about school selection but as of right now, if price was not an issue, I would attend University of Iowa.

So, finally my question is; Is the price difference so big that it should sway my decision? Furthermore, what have some other people done to help pay for their school? I have already calculated in any University given scholarships. I DO NOT qualify for any financial aid. The reason my parents are not able to help out more is that I have two younger brothers that need to go to college too. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

If anyone would like to suggest any other schools I would be open to that too. Just assume I can get acceptance, I am just looking strictly for affordability. My ideal price for school is about $15,000-$20,000 per year.

If this is the total you can pay per year, you should be looking at instate public universities in Illinois (your home state?) where you will be paying the instate rate.

As you can see I'm paying less at University of Toledo than at Eastern Illinois University. So, I've found many examples that that is not true. Anyways, what should I do about paying for Iowa now?

You should check the U of Iowa website for information about financial aid for transfer students, specifically scholarships for OOS students. I don't know what their policies are...but many state universities do not give significant scholarship money to OOS students and some don't give scholarships to transfer students at all.

$3,407.76/semester instate
$7,813.56/semester out of state

The above is for this current year at U of Toledo. That is about $15,600 for tuition for two semesters.

University of Iowa Tuition only is $10,329 per semester...$20,600 or so.

Neither of these includes room/board or fees.

Where did you get your figures for the current year? I got these from the school websites...today. If these figures I found are accurate, there is about $5000 difference in tuition costs between U of Iowa and U of Toledo. Only you and your family can determine if this dollar amount is a make or break amount.

I have adjusted the total cost I would be paying so the figures I had down is the dollar amount I would owe the school for going full time two semesters. Scholarships included.

And room and board. Everything.

It looks like you have a $15,000 price difference between Iowa (which is the flagship U in Iowa) than for EIU (one of the Illinois State U's) or Toledo (one of the smaller and lesser known of the Ohio public univerisities). Again...only YOU and your family can make the decision whether that $15,000 is something your family can and will be able to pay.

Do the prices you quote include the $10K your parents will be paying?

Your figures are very hard to interpret. You are putting numbers down here for us that look like "apples vs. oranges". It's very hard to give you somewhat decent advice (keeping in mind that this is a message board...) when you are giving figures in this fashion. For ME it would be easier if you listed the name of the school, the full cost of attendance, the dollar amount of the scholarship you are receiving and leave it at that. That way I would be looking at the same data for ALL of the schools you are expressing an interest in.

You will be able to get a good enough education at any of the schools to which you are applying. U of Iowa is a flagship university. The other two are not. Did you look at UIUC, your state flagship U?

Thumper- First, no the price does not include the $10K. Yea, I know its hard to interpret. Thanks for your help, really. I was really just asking if it would be worth it to go to a school such as Iowa that is a flagship rather than save the money and go to a lesser known school? I dont know if right now in our economy would be the best time to take out loans. I guess I will have to think about it more. Thanks again for your help.

UIUC for business is not an option for me. Too tough to get in as a transfer. The average GPA is a 3.8. Just as a side note UIUC would be comparable to U Iowa in price for me. (in my mass calculation efforts)

As a former Redbird, I'd suggest you look into Illinois State, as well. My husband is an EIU grad, and we both did quite well after college. At this point in the economy, I think you'd be better served to spend less $$ on tuition.. Iowa is a great school, but I'm really not convinced it would be worth the extra money...
