I already saw the credit value of the AP test scores I have on the UCLA website. How do I figure out which credits would apply to my major? And do these credits allow me to graduate faster?

Why wouldn’t the credits apply if the chart says that UCLA will give you credit?

I don’t think you would be allowed to use AP credit to pass out of courses required for your major–that sounds too good to be true. But AP takes care of some of the basic graduation requirements. For example, I would not be required to take a basic reading/composition course because of AP Lang and AP Lit, and APUSH will let me pass out of the American history/institutions requirement.

It might also depend on your major. For example, if you took AP Calc in high school but you’re going into engineering, then that won’t mean much since you’ll be taking more calculus anyway.

Are you going to Bruin Day? Maybe you could ask them there.

I’m in engineering, and for our orientation they have counselors go through it with you. Some AP tests could cover some pre-req courses, if they’re not huge courses that you’ll need to build up on. Other AP would just count as units. Graduation date depends on your courses and if you’ve completed it, it wouldn’t put you like quarter ahead… unlikely. It would be good for academic standing, higher academic standing = earlier 1st pas, second pass times (compared to the standing that normal ppl, without ap’s would have). You’ll learn alllll about this during orientation, and i’m sure you can too at Bruin day.
