Is it easy to find work in the Northeast, Chicago or LA after graduation? Do most students work in Charlotte? Just trying to get a sense how they do with internship and job placement and whether major corporations take their students. Much thanks!
I am very interested to read responces to your question. We absolutely love Elon, but I have heard that job placement is very weak. I would love to be corrected.
@college582 I would love responses. Where did you hear job placement is weak? I think I saw outcomes on their website and it looks like most students find work or go to grad school. I was wondering about the quality of the jobs and about recruiing and where students go after Elon. Did you hear about bad job placement for any particular majors? Thanks so much.
@citymama9 My cousin’s son just graduated (finance) and does not have a job as of yet. He would like to work in New York City. We are from the CT/NJ/NYC tri-state area. My cousin was the one who told me Elon’s job placement is lacking. However, she added that she is under the impression that the administration is well aware of this shortcoming and have made improving job placement a top priority. Whichever college my daughter attends (I hope it’s Elon!), my daughter will be prepared to persue personal contacts for career placement and will not be exclusively replying on the school.

Thank you so much. It looks like such a great school in so many ways. I guess more research is needed. I’m wondering how communications majors do considering that seems to be one of the school’s strengths. Again, thank you:)
My son is going into his Senior year and is interning this summer in Fort Myers, Fl for a major company financial company. He is a double major in Marketing and Project Management.
From January through April, he let us know there were constant Job fairs/recruiters on campus for job placement.
I can speak for the other majors but this is was one of the reasons he went to Elon
My daughter is looking at Elon. We all really enjoyed our visit. We met the director of the BFA (dance) program and were really reassured by the West Coast/NYC dance internships that they set up. You may want to email whoever runs the department that your daughter is interested in and discuss this issue. We found them to be willing to chat.
Hey all,
Current a business student here and thought I could give some insight pertaining to the business school.
If you look on it’s website, LSB actually has a very high job placement rate after graduation. However, I don’t find that metric to be particularly useful as almost every single student with a college degree will land “a job”. What’s more relevant is what kind of job you’re looking to get.
Salaries at graduation are noticeably low, however this is because most students (either by choice or default) end up working instate after graduation, where salaries are significantly lower than the Northeast. Additionally, although the salaries at graduation are low, keep in mind the Elon’s tuition is exceptionally lower than the tuitions of its peer schools. In this case, it would be more practical to go to Elon than maybe another more prestigious school if the salary-tuition margin at Elon is higher than that school. For example:
ELON UNIVERSITY (LSB)
Median starting Salary: $54,530
Cost of attendance: $49,645
Net Benefit: $4,885 per year
WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY (B.S.)
Median Starting Salary: $70,015
Cost of attendance: $69,130
Net Benefit: $885 per year
Now of course we are only taking averages, and this should be assessed on a case by case basis.
Objectively speaking, LSB is a good school and consistently ranks within the top 50 business schools by multiple publishers (I think #48 by p&q). However, within those top 50 rankings, there is a HUGE difference between the upper 25 schools and the lower 25. In other words, simply being a student in Elon’s LSB will not get you the same recognition as students at Wharton, Mendoza, Wake, and other top 25 programs. You need to demonstrate to employers that you are just as smart or smarter than students in those programs and you being in a less rigorous program was a result of your choice, not your ability. Now, of course I am referring to students who wish to work in big cities at bulge brackets and the big 4. Many students at Elon opt to work at local companies or branches in the Piedmont Triad, which is perfectly fine too.
From what I’ve gathered by talking to NYC employers and recruiters at elon, it seems apparent that if you’re looking for jobs in corporate offices of big banks and firms (NYC, Philly, Boston, etc) Elon grads are expect to sport a gpa of no lower than a 3.7 with generous credentials and internship experience- And that will only land you an interview.
In terms of internships, we’re actually all required to do one as criteria for graduation. Generally speaking, internships aren’t hard to get either, and pretty much any work experience will be counted as an internship to satisfy that requirement. However, my experience with finding internships at Elon has certainly been less than ideal. Getting internships in Boston, Manhattan or Philly is next to impossible without connections or an exceptional resume, and Elon is not in the vocabulary of many top employers.
I find LSB to particularly lack in professional development resources, and it is typically up to the student to find outlets that will make them stand out. Look into their business fellows program and their other professional organizations. I would be happy to answer any additional questions!
@Stitches98 Very interesting. Thank you. Do you know if it’s the same for Communications majors?
Not entirely familiar with the comm school, but from what I’ve heard, it’s very good. Like many programs at Elon, I would say it is up and coming and underrated. They actually just completed a brand new comm building last year. Strategic communications is a common major amongst elon students, which is a blend of communications and business classes- I head that program is very strong as well.
@Stitches98 Thanks so much.Since you’re being so helpful. Would you mind talking about life at Elon? Most social dorms? What the social scene is like? The overall vibe of the school? Again, thank you so much.
I can do that! Current student. The most social dorms are located in the Historic neighborhood and followed closely by those in the Danielley Neighborhood. But next year Dan will be exclusively for sophomores. Global has some really social LLCs but is pretty quiet. Collonades is very very quiet. Basically, if you want to have an easy time finding a party, go Historic. But nades and Global dorms are really nice. There’s going to be a new dorm next year called west, on the other side of the academic pavilion. It could be more like historic but time will tell. Social scene (partying) is dominated by fraternity life and some club sports. Girls will have absolutely no problem. Guys should know someone in them or make friends fast. There’s plenty to do around campus if you’re not into that scene. I highly recommend getting involved with a club and sticking with it. There’s also tons of really cool speakers and panels all the time. The vibe comes off as really supportive community atmosphere. Be prepared for a ton of northerners. They basically run the school haha. But it’s nice to have people around you from all over. Personally, I live in an LLC and global and highly recommend if you want a super social atmosphere in a hotel-like environment.
@hg2021 Many thanks!! Which LLCs do you like best? If a girl wants to be in a sorority is it beneficial to live in the all girl dorm in Historic? I forget the name. Also, do you find lots of down to earth people at Elon or is that rare? Finally, is it easy to double major? Sorry for all the questions:)
@citymama9 - you and I seem to be following the same schools! Haha. I am following this thread as well…
I’ve heard really good things about Service learning community, International LLC, and Leaders in a global world being very social. Also the communications one if that’s your major. Top tier sororities you need to be pretty popular/very attractive/fun. Living in Carolina can help make connections to the top tier girls because girls there tend to go out 4-5 nights a week there. But all other sororities you definitely don’t need to. And I know girls in Global that have gone top tier. It depends on your GPA, personality, and involvment more. There’s every type at Elon. Being that it’s a private university, you’re always going to find snotty people. But I’ve met plenty of kind people in all of my classes and on my floor and I absolutely adore my roommate. I’m double majoring, and it really depends on which ones and how many credits you come in with. If there’s a lot of cross over (like strat com and business) it’s super easy. A science and business (what I’m doing) means that I’m going to be able to graduate on time with no room to spare after gen ed requirements and I came in with 8 credit hours and tested out of a language.
@3mamagirls Hey there! My D is a junior and I’m researching schools fast and furiously these days. It’s hard to know what schools will be on the final list since she hasn’t taken the SAT yet. I’m looking at a range of schools right now. So, what other schools interest you?
@hg2021 You have been sooooo helpful. Thank you so much. Great information.
@hg2021 thank you so much for the social information. Heading back down in January for an audition. Daughter is very excited.
