How does GPA come into play?

I go to a nationally top 25 ranked private school & the competition is fierce lol

I don’t have a 4.0 gpa but I’m aware that many of my classmates do.

I’m very well rounded & I’m involved with national competitions etc…so I’m not that worried about selling myself
but

im really scared that my gpa is going to come into play
like im pretty confident that ill do well on the SAT, PSAT & ACT

but how much does my gpa matter? Is it true that colleges narrow down applicants based on their GPA?

What are some cut offs? I’m rreally worried… I really effed up freshman year because i really didn’t know how to manage my time (I got a 3.6 gpa…unweighted)

GPA is always a consideration in college admissions. Some schools only rely on GPA and Test scores, while many will use these along with EC’s and essays. It depends upon which schools you are targeting.

GPA is a huge factor (3.6 isn’t too bad BTW but if you want to go to really tip-top schools, get the GPA up to a 3.8+) . However, colleges will see the rigor of your school and academics and take that into consideration as well. For example, you say you go to a very strong, rigorous high school with fierce competition.

Well, colleges will see that when your HS sends a school profile with your transcript and won’t be TOO angry you have a 3.6.
