How does grade scale affect auto scholarships?

philly is more urban than Oxford! has he visited Temple and will Miss offer him a really good deal too? im thinking if miss is lot more generous than Temple, it could be hard to turn down.

I suspect the urban setting will make him pick Temple if he has the choice. He told me today that his weighted GPA is 4.0, so if the way Temple weights it is close to the way his school does he should be in good shape. Health and PE are the only classes the school weights that Temple wouldn’t, I believe. He wants to visit Temple in late October when they have the film festival in Philly. Mississippi gives full tuition +room to NMSF, so Temple will probably have to offer full tuition to compete. The second level scholarship would probably put annual cost at least 10-15K more per year.

oh, that is a nice deal for ole miss. check to see what they mean by room though. i think for ky, which is obs not ole miss, room was the most basic dorm or i assume credit towards a more expensive room. it does look like he has a reas shot at Temple’s top scholly.

It is the cheapest room, with credit for other dorms (and off campus after Freshman year). With Temple it all comes down to how they weight his GPA, and if they have a problem with D’s in English Sophomore and Jr. Years. That, combined with the fact that he got a 4 on the English AP, is likely to earn him the “slacker” label.

Wright State gives tuition, room, board and books to NMSF… http://www.wright.edu/raider-connect/financial-aid/scholarships/wright-state-university-semifinalist-0

…but it’s not even IN Dayton, hard to compete with Philly

I believe Wright State’s is in state only. Too bad there are no MD state universities that generous.

My bad, that’s true. We are instate so I hadn’t looked. FWIW D much preferred Temple.

Bumping this up to say that we looked at our son’s transcript last night. We could see how they weighted classes, and found out a few things. First, nonacademic classes were not weighted. Second, the two honors/AP classes he made D’s in were not weighted either. Even so, he ended up with a 3.95 weighted gpa. Hopefully that bodes well for getting a top scholarship. Still, the big gap between his unweighted and weighted has us a bit concerned (there’s a difference of almost .7)

i am pretty sure Temple weights but as you know, they only look at core classes too. you should hear soon, He has been accecpted if i remember but you are awaiting the letter via snail mail?

He hasn’t been accepted yet, but with 3.3/3.95 and 1460 that part’s not in doubt. He was notified a week ago that everything was received. After seeing how each class was weighted on his transcript it’s hard to see how it wouldn’t be at least 3.6 under Temple’s weighting system. My brother asked him at dinner tonight if Ole Miss was still under consideration and he said yes. He definitely likes Temple more, but he knows there’s enough in his college account to pay for everything at Mississippi with a lot left over. It’s a good problem to have with what college costs these days.

yeah. def a good problem to have.
