How Does My College List Look?

So I got a 2100 on the SAT and I have a 3.5 GPA unweighted. I have really good extracurics as well. I'm interested in political science for college. How do these schools look to you?

Northwestern -- Reach
UCLA -- Reach
UC Berkeley -- Reach
U of Washington in St. Louis -- Reach
American U -- Match
UC San Diego -- Match
UC Davis -- Match
Boston U -- Match
UC Santa Cruz -- Safety
U of Wisconsin, Madison -- Safety

Thanks!

American is probably a safety.

I would get one more safety on there, just in case.

GPA is too low for UW to be a safety. UW is big into class rank. Consider substituting Indiana for UW.

Michigan State has a good Political Science program too and might be a good safety also.

Don’t count on UCSD either unless your UC GPA is a bit higher.

American U and UC Santa Cruz should be your safeties. Since your are applying to DC schools, you could add GW as your match. You have good chance in Wisconsin, but it could be a low match.

Hope this will help. :)

I’ll agree about UW. In the 70% chance range with the GPA, too low to be a true safety unless it’s a tough HS and you have high class rank. OOS CA isn’t as rare as MS or WV would be. I think publics in general are more stats than EC driven.

Op seems to want big cities…how about U of Minnesota and Fordham for safeties?

I say drop one from each category and personalize more of your apps. You will probably get accepted to all but 1 or 2.

Thanks for all the input, I know that my GPA is rather low, which is my one big downfall. This first semester I am trying to really hard to get straight A’s bc I know some colleges request more info so I’m hoping that I can show them those grades and they will decide that I have improved. Also I am at least a semifinalist, hopefully a national merit finalist :)

Are the privates and OOS publics financial safeties as well? If not without aid, reconsider having a financial safety in addition to UCSC.

I will add to the chorus; Madison isn’t a safety; I am not even sure in in-stater would be a sure thing with those numbers, solid as they are. Do more research on costs and admission numbers–and correct the name of your St. Louis school:) Good luck, in any case.

sorry St. Louis should be Washington U. in St. Louis, I always mess that up :p
And I would need aid at most of the privates. But I live in a single parent household with two kids so I think I will be able to get at least some need-based aid. Also I am currently a NMSF, and hopefully I will be a NMF and get some scholarships bc of that. Meanwhile I have been applying for school and outside scholarships.
