How does NEOUCOM rank?

I have been looking for stats on where neoucom ranks compared to traditional med schools. Can anyone help me out?

I've been wondering this too.

Very low.

Medical school prestige comes from one thing: research. Every medical school in the US is capable of producing excellent physicians. Only some medical schools have the resources and research funding to advance the state of medical science.

That is simply not a priority for NEUCOM. It's mission is to produce primary care physicians. It receives almost no research funding from the NIH. In addition, it's not very well known among the general med school applicant population because there are so few spots for normal applicants. It's essentially a school of kids and very few 23+ year olds want to attend school with such an environment.

This really isn't a concern for you if you want to be a primary care physician in Ohio.

so are you saying you can only become a primary care physician if you go to neoucom?

what i meant to say was is that the only kind of doctor you can become?

You can be any kind of doctor from any medical school. However, the environment is such that primary care is stressed and promoted. The lack of research will make it difficult (though not impossible) to get into the competitive specialties.

Here is a match list. You can see many specialties are represented. But, nevertheless, a lot of Ohio and primary care matches.

how hard is it to get a competitive residency coming from neoucom?

neoucom = no research = gluck getting into a top residency prog

partaking in substantial research (i.e. in your proposed specialty) goes a long way in differentiating between applicants with similar USMLE scores, especially in the uber competitive specialties
