How does New College work?

<p>I've done as much research as I can but I can't find any info spelling out how the grading at New College of Florida works. They apparently don't do grades, there are no GPAs and no As, Bs, etc. Instead you make a contract with a faculty member. My question is, if things aren't getting graded how do you know how you're doing in your courses and how do you fulfill your contract? What is the contract even?</p>

<p>Also, I plan on attending medical school. Will not having a GPA seriously impact my chances?</p>

<p>It uses narrative evaluation. If you don’t do your work (or don’t do it well), you get a bad evaluation.</p>

<p>I’d recommend that you e-mail <a href=“mailto:naturalsciences@ncf.edu”>naturalsciences@ncf.edu</a> and ask that question. I’m sure that that department has a lot of graduates go on to medical school, so they should know how to advise you.</p>

<p>I’m a New College graduate from way back in the day. Feel free to PM me, and I’ll tell you as much as I can. LOL, I think I still have a few of my old evaluations lying around somewhere.</p>

<p>BTW–New College grads have a history of getting into top graduate and professional schools, so not to worry.</p>
