How does one become a Professor?

<p>What exactly is the general path or procedure a person takes or must take when they intend to become a professor? Especially in liberal arts fields of study.</p>

<p>Let's start from right before entering gradschool to getting tenure.</p>

<p>Research, research, research. And being published. Those are one of, if not the, most important things. Other than that, getting your PhD. While in grad school, you’re a TA. It depends where you would want to teach, as well. Some colleges/universities don’t require their professors to do research: they are “teaching colleges.”</p>
