How does one decide?

So I am a political Science and Economics Major soph at UMich, but i am trying to do Business or Public Policy... really i am in a debate between Medical school and Law School right now. I have completed a year of calc, bio, and english; as well as .5 year of chem and physics. If i decide on Med i will finish chem and physics this summer and doe orgo next year; my science GPA is about a 3.89 and i used to be a minor in Bio and Chem but it gave me too much of a time constraint (classes/labs) bc i row and play water polo also.

How does one really decide to go to Med school? I have grown up around Lawyers my whole life - My mom is one, my g-pa was a top exec and top lawyer at Fortune 500 company, my uncle is a lawyer and they all love it. I am in a pre-law frat and i am really interested in law with eventual business aspirations but....

I am intrigued by medicine... i am not sure what field, but it fascinates me. I usually watch discovery health all the time, and i have shadowed a family friend that has his own practice. it all interests me but the cost and time needed to put into it... is it worth it? I know you can't decide for me... but how do i decide??? how did you decide, those that decided half way through college, help???

also, if i take the chem and physics i need this summer at a CC, due to cost savings, is that cool - they wont transfer to UMich bc i am over the limit to transfer them from a CC - 60 credit hours - i would have to take them at a 4 yr uni, but i just don’t have the funds right now to afford that ontop of other things this summer. Anyone have experience with it?

Try to shadow some more & volunteer at the free clinic in your town, or a nursing home and maybe some med research if you can.

If you really can’t decide, there is a possibility of becoming an MD-JD… that’s pretty ambitious however. I think either one is hard enough on its own. It all depends on what interests you. A lot of why I chose med school is that the human body is fascinating to me, much more than legal issues ever will be.

I believe the consensus on this is “no”. It would not be cool.

I think what curmudgeon means is that med school admission committees do not look favorably on taking pre-med courses at a CC. Perhaps you can take them at a local public 4yr college.

I’m working on a response to this.
