Same as 2008, slightly harder than 2007 (I retook it last week and scored a 228, and I know I didn’t do that well today).

In my opinion, the test’s were probably the same amount of toughness, but I thought this year was easier, because I have a whole year of practice under my belt now

I put disdain. It seemed to me that they resented that he was there trying to get money from them, but that they had disdain because they considered him some street rat trying to steal their food.

Made an 1870 on the SAT last year {670 CR, 560 M, 640 Writing}. I’m hoping for a 200 on the PSAT {700 CR, 650 M, 650 W}. Anyone else feel rushed through the writing section? I finished it but didn’t get to review all of my answers. =(

I put resentment due to the fact that if they had felt disdain about his being a street rat then it wouldn’t have gone away because he was still a street rat. However, they resented him because they thought he was taking their jobs and food. When they learned that he wasn’t, the resentment went away.

Did any one have trouble with the question in the writing section that was like “That…came as a surprise to…” (sorry, that’s all I remember). Was is “that” or “no error”?

I put NE for that one

^^
I put “it had” was the error, cause the discoveries they were referring to was plural, we then then should be “they had”

I actually thought it was pretty easy… The math section was breezy, I finished both with spare time to double check my work, however, just because I suck at writing and grammar, I don’t think i did that swell in the writing section. The CR was ok, it wasn’t too hard.

Also, to that Disdain/resentment question, disdain is basically a look of contempt which makes them feel better than others. If I remember correctly, he works at some sort of soup kitchen or something that gives out food to others and the boys the article is talking about is the customers. so I put resentment.

That is all I can pray. Mean jerks, made my day a bad day. I was nailing almost 800 in all CB PSAT Released exams. They pick the day when I am Junior and mess me up. God, please hear me for 215…

^Same here dude. I need to make the cutoff for National Merit.

It was resentment. Disdain implies they looked down on Hari, but since they were in the same position as him, they wouldn’t have. This with the “after they realized Hari wasn’t competing with them anymore, they were nicer” indicates resentment.

I thought the test was easier than 2008’s.

That is all I can pray. Mean jerks, made my day a bad day. I was nailing almost 800 in all CB PSAT Released exams. They pick the day when I am Junior and mess me up. God, please hear me for 215…

A 215 is all you need? try 221…(NJ). If i were pressured to get 215, i would probably have done better because i can hit 215 easily. But a 221 is ridiculuous for me…In any case, i don’t think i even reached a 215 considering the pressure i was in to get a 221+. I have so far -5 on CR, -3 (or -2 depending on the A,B,X question) M, and -3 on Writing. What does that come out to? BTW, this is my best case scenario…sad isn’t it? I do bad when im under pressure but i would bet any money that if i had not cared about this test at all, i would have done much better.

here is why I thought this test was much harder then last year…
- CR vocab was excessivley difficult with words like halcyon, munificence, and histrionic
- AT LEAST two CR questions had two answers that were way too close even for the ETS…resentment/disdain and the less important/less impressive one for the literacy passage. i personally think that the resentment/disdain question was one of the hardest questions ever on a PSAT or SAT…once in awhile they do throw out badly worded or extremely debatable questions, maybe this year is one of those times.
- the math actually was easy, but in retrospect, there are a few im lucky i got…tricky ones were the angle in the circle (got it wrong), the digit 7 (got it wrong), ABX, xyz, and the intersecting sequences
- the writing tested the most obscure rules this year…“was dependent” could be changed to active, but yet its still technically right, but then again should it have been depended upon? another one i think they should consider throwing out…“at the center of” vs “in the center of” is ridiculous to test about, and #34 also technically the answer will turn out to be “came”, the sentence still made sense…"That the park blah blah blah (present tense) came as a surprise to blah blah blah…the park can still presently have something while it came as a surprise in the past. “That Mary drinks soda came as a surprise to John when I told him this.” grammatically, it is still correct. this is another one they should throw out.

even if they dont throw these out, due to the difficulty of the test im feeling/hoping for generous curves this year…
CR: 80,80,78,76,74,72,70
M: 80,77,74,71,69
W: 80,78,74,73,71

If they were to throw out all the questions you mention ^, im sure a significant amount of ppl would get perfect scores; i know i sure as hell would.

Yes, realistically none of them would be thrown out, but since they were tricky, the curve this year should at least be one of the more generous ones…but i seriously think they should reconsider the resentment/disdain one.

^Yeah, same here. I spent too much time on that problem.

I agree that the “resentment”/“disdain” question is probably the only question truly worthy of consideration for dropping. The mere fact that, even after reviewing seven dictionaries, I am only somewhat confident that I was correct in putting “resentment” is sufficient to warrant consideration.

There are still a few grammar questions that are lingering doubts for me: “to build,” “at the center of,” and “explanation of.”

Lol, The Writing section and Math were easy, but I already mad a careless mistake on 1 Math questions. The CR Vocab was Great thanks to DH , but I was angry because I lost time on the first CR section. I thought i was on time but my watch was slow or something . When the proctor said " close your books" I yelled “Crap” Everyones like Whats wrong with that guy. Hopefully My other 2 sections balance the 3 questions i didn’t answer on the CR section.

Hope fully I can make a 215+ so that i can be the 1st person in my school to get National Merit in 5 years and the 1st african american ever to get one.

To give you an insight to how this is curved:

On last year’s PSAT, I got -0 for an 80 W, -1 mc -1 gridin for a 72 M, and -3 mc (all considered “hard questions”) for 75 CR.

The year prior, I got -2 for a 73 W, -1 mc and omit 1 MC for a 72 M, and -6 mc (five of which were “hard”) for a 68 CR.

The same raw score both years got me the same math score. I have a tough time believing the writing curve will be any different. And even if all the questions you guys are criticizing in the CR are “hard questions”, every PSAT has those, and missing them duly affects your score.

PSAT never has generous curves.

^ how did you get a 72 for Math by only missing two on the 2008 test?

and silverturtle, i may have asked this before, but what question was the explanation of/for question? was it after the bach question but before the washington DC question?
