So I know that housing for Fall 2017 opens up in February but we haven’t found much on housing assignments as far as roommate matching. My D did find the Schools App and has been on that but not having much luck since it seems everyone on there wants Briscoe and she is looking at Spruce and wants the LLC for Education, and if she doesn’t get into the LLC she is looking mainly at Southeast and possible Central neighborhoods.
How does the at large process work for housing to get paired up with a roommate? When we do the housing app is there a profile that she fills out as far as interests, likes, etc.? Her best friend is also going to IU but they don’t want to room together. They figured if either one of them got a bad roommate then they could use each other as an escape if they needed to get away for a night.
We’ve looked on the Housing website and either we are overlooking information about roommate assignments or its not there. Any information is greatly appreciated.
If you don’t choose a roommate, you get a completely random one. There is no profile of interests or anything like that on the housing app.
The best advice I have for choosing a roommate is to use RoomSync. There, you fill out a profile and it suggests people that have similar interests. Then, you can message those people and hopefully find a roommate that you will request to room with. IU might have already sent an email about RoomSync, but if not, they should send one soon. I remember getting mine over winter break of my senior year in high school.
Thanks. She hasn’t seen anything about RoomSync. She’s only seen the Schools App that she’s been on. I’ll mention it to her tonight.
I’m a bit surprised that they don’t do more of a matching program. Other schools we considered seemed to use profiles to help better match up students of similar interests for housing. Didn’t realize that IU really is that random on the assignments.
