HI,

I recently became a rensselaer medalist at my school, and I have looked all over to find the quality of education I would find at RPI? Is it a decent school, in terms of engineering, and how does it rank among other schools? Thanks for your comments.

Much better than merely decent; RPI is an excellent engineering school. Not in the absolute top group of engineering schools, but just a cut below. Downsides are that it's a tech school in a pretty boring city/surrounding area and like most technical schools has a severe lack of females.

RPI is a very good engineering school and the first of its type in the country, founded in 1824 (50-60 years before MIT). It's very unique in that it's probably the only school in the country with over a 60% acceptance rate and over a 1300 avg SAT; so is very self-selecting. It ranks #3 behind only Cornell and MIT in sending its graduates on to getting PhDs in engineering and chemistry; so is very well known and respected within those circles.
