How does sending scores work?

I am planning on taking the October 6th SAT and applying ED to a school with a Nov 1 deadline. On the schools website, they make it clear that, for ED, they accept tests up until the November test. However, I checked online, and it says that October SAT scores will likely only be released by October 19th, Essay scores will only be released by the 30th, and that colleges will only receive the score by November 9th. How does this all work. How would I go about sending this specific score? Would I have to write down the code of the school I am applying to on the SAT when I take it? What happens if I do that? Do colleges wait after the November 1 deadline to receive all the scores?

Most schools with ED or EA Nov 1 application deadlines, accept scores through the October test and they can arrive after the app deadline, many of those, like the one you mention, even accept Nov test scores.

For the October score, you have the option of either identifying the college on your test application as one to automatcally receive scores upon release (and thus send them before you know the scores). That costs nothing extra to send and results in the fastest form of delivery. Alternatively, you can wait until you have the scores and then send – sending these days consists of College Board putting the scores into an online account that the college has with CB and thus sending and receipt occur simultaneously, and that is usually done no more, and most often less, than a week after you order scores. In any event the scores can arrive after Nov 1 and that is fine.

As to the Nov test, aif you want to send it for ED or EA, you should identify the college as one to receive scores in your application to assure they arrive on time to be considered.
