How does staying in Hanover during the winter work out.

I am an incomming freshman and I have been telling my parents it will be no big deal for me to stay up in New Hampshire over the winter break (I at least want to go to winter carnival...) We live in Texas so the cost of a flight could easly be spent staying there... any advice ?

Winter Carnival is during Winter Term, not during Winter Break.

winter break happens right after fall term finals and students return around Jan 2 as the winter term starts a few days later. Many people will have gone home for christmas holiday season and you wil lhave to request interim housing from ORL

In terms of staying over winter interim:

While many students go home for winter break, TJ, lots of internationals stay on campus during interim. You can apply for free interim housing to stay in your room over winter break. The campus cafeterias are closed but most students just eat around Hanover. I've heard it gets a little lonely but on the bright side, you have things like the skiway all to yourself! Also, don't tie up your winter break plans yet- there are always tons of opportunities to go on ice climbing trips (D0C), volunteer trips (Tucker Foundation), or other Dartmouth-sponsored activities with clubs and extracurriculars.

Aren't there extra costs involved for an additional month of room and board? I am guessing an airline ticket would be less expensive than the housing & dining costs.
