How does the Ross minor work?

I'm a CS student at the COE. I want to get a business (especially marketing) background. From what I understand, the minor is limited to only 100 students (how many people even apply??). Since it's a competitive process, what could I do to increase my chances of getting in? Is GPA all that matters or are there factors more important than that? I think I'll be fine with the essays since I have some really good reasons I could write about.

Any advice would be nice.

It’s hard to really know because it’s brand new. I think this was the first year they accepted applications. You’d have to ask Ross admissions or something and see if they have any info on how admissions for the minor went this year.

The Ross BBA admissions are apparently 33% GPA, 33% essays/interviews and 33% extra curriculars… I’m not sure if this applies to the Ross minor, but I’m confident GPA isn’t the only dominant factor. You should consider joining a marketing club (as well as any other clubs that interest you, of course). I don’t know specific admission stats, but I was told the minor is around as competitive as the BBA, if not more.

My friend applied to the minor and didn’t get in. He said the rejection email said that only about 22% percent of applicants got in, so it is pretty competitive. Only thing is the applicant pool may be slightly less qualified on average than the BBA applicant pool since there’s probably a lot of Ross rejects.

Ross is mainly looking for leadership potential. I know kids who took easy classes but still got in because they took on several leadership roles in clubs or joined a fraternity and become heavily involved in that. A high GPA does not guarantee acceptance into their programs.

Wow, that’s lower than actual Ross admissions, isn’t it?

Ross is usually like 30 to 35% acceptance rate

The following is from the Ross site. Based on this 2013 Class profile, the admission rate for Ross was about 37%.
