How does this course schedule appeal to UCs???

Hi,
Here's my dilemma. I'm shooting for UCB/UCLA but my grades are pretty low. I thought that i'd get an A- in Comp Sci AB AP but i think i'm going to end up with a solid B... after looking at my schedule (and maybe my activities) do you think i should drop Comp Sci AB AP (or maybe even possibly Calc ABAP)???
In other words would it be better to get a B in Comp Sci or just to drop it.....
i'd probably get a 3/4 on the AP for that (as well as all the other APs)

THANKS!!

What major are you applying for?
UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach

thanks for the reply, flopsy.
Would dropping comp sci to avoid a B this semester (and possibly next) improve my chances?
Thanks!

i'm probably applying undeclared (i'm still a junior) but possibly their HAAS business school later on

Drop your activities. You're assuming about 3 B's (uc's don't care about B+), you can change one of those to an A- but cutting down on the other stuff.

ASB Leadership
Newspaper Staff
Freshman Retreat Leader
Xtian Ethics (sem1) Social Justice (sem2)
Are any of those courses used in the the a-g UC courses?

our school puts school-sponsored non a-g activities on transcripts. I actually cannot raise those grades with more time (2 are too low and one just doesn't allow for mobility). I'm not considering dropping activities since I actually do enjoy those.

so assuming I can't drop anything else besides comp sci ab ap to avoid a B, should i go for it?

thanks again

yeah, go ahead and drop. CompSci is considered a math-style elective by the UC's, and since you are taking Calc, you got plenty of math; calc is considered a fifth year of math. You can always retake it next year, if you so desire.

for chances, recalc your UC gpa without the non a-g classes. Even tho they are on your transcript, UC won't count them in its recomputation of your gpa.

how do u have 9 classes in junior year? Is that even possible? Unless my eyes are failing on me, u have way too many classes to handle. Drop it and take an A. Ur GPA matters the most IMO.

thanks for hte reply. the ASB, wrestling, frosh retreat leader, and cardinal newspaper are just school-sponsored activities (outside of school). None of them take that much time so they're not hindering me from an A in english/math/comp sci

by the way where can I find the average gpa w/uw admitted for colleges?

www.sparknotes.com>college>type school>look under admission statistics.

Here's Berkeley:

http://college.sparknotes.com/school/admissions.epl?inun_id=9144

thanks!
so is this gpa the UC weighted gpa capped at 8 semesters of AP/Honors?
it also says that interview and recommendation "not considered'... does that mean insignificant or completely inconsidered

Sorry, but I really don't know. I don't think that is the average weighted GPA and it sounds pretty odd to not consider all of that at all, but that is what it says. I really don't know. Don't take sparknotes so seriously, just use it for general information. Someone else probably knows more about it all. Sorry.

can i please get someone else's input? this decision is really bothering me and it means a lot.. thanks so much

cpt:

the UC's don't conduct interviews, and recs are not allowed. Yes, bonus points are capped at 8, but only UC-approved honors courses.

Instead of sparknotes or something else, go to the source for basic stats:
