How does waitlist work for SDSU?

SDSU was one of my top 3 choices but I got waitlisted there? I really thought I would get in, how many waitlist students do they usually admit? I’m a Pre-Biology major Btw
UC /CSU GPA was 3.86
Act 25 Composite
8 Ap/Honors Courses taken throughout highschool
I was accepted to
SFSU
UCM
UCSC
UCR
SJSU
CSUB
Denied to
UC Davis
UCSD

It varies a lot by major and year - and nobody will give you any sense of where you stand. I will tell you, they may keep you hanging well into May.

The good news is, you got into some really great schools. Congrats on that!

I’d encourage you to begin focusing on an alternate plan. Some schools are already taking housing deposits, secure your spot somewhere. If SDSU accepts you, you’ll loose a deposit but, that’s chump change when we are talking college expenses.

@Jatt2015‌: I saw one posting of waitlisted applicant from last year whom got accepted in June. All the other postings are for appeals and those applicants heard in July. You will need to SIR somewhere before May 1, so get excited about your other acceptances and keep yourself on the waitlist if you want. Freshman orientation begins 3rd week in July and the sooner you sign up, the better class choices you get. If you have to wait until June or July for the waitlist results, you may not have a good class schedule in the Fall.

You have some very good schools to choose from and their is really not too much difference between each schools Biology program. Pick a school that you where you want to spend the next 4 years and Good Luck.

Which schools (that I got accepted to) are best rank wise for their Biology program? I’m just asking so I can see which school would be better to attend, include SDSU into this as well assuming I get into SDSU because it was one of my top 3 choices, thanks!

UCSC>SDSU>UCR>UCM>SJSU>SFSU>CSUB

SDSU and UCR are pretty close to equal, especially since UCR is opening the Med School. It really depends on what you plan to do with your BIO major. Pre-Med than probably UCSC/UCR, although SDSU has a very good program along with the Pre-professional advising center. Interested in research, then probably the UC’s. What I did with my older son is make an excel spreadsheet of all the course requirements for his major from each school of interest to compare side by side programs. It did help him make a decison along with visiting on admitted students day.

I want to go to Physical therapy if that changes the ranking at all?

Also do you think that I’ll get into SDSU through the waitlist, will I be close to the top of the list or bottom of the list for the Biology major?

There is no way to know where you are on the waitlist. Getting in will depend upon how many applicants decline their acceptance and how many spots will be open for your major. No one can tell you accept admissions and that information will be available after May 1. You still need to accept another school while you wait. School rankings will make little difference for undergrad. You want to get a competitive GPA at any school you attend when you apply for the PT program.
