I’m out of state and didn’t know about paying my housing fee until a month or two ago. I’m in Plan ii. UT’s website says only about 40% of Plan ii students are in honors dorms, so…do I have a chance at getting in one?
@lovingllama It’s hard to say for sure. Not all honors students choose to live in the Honors Quad, so the 40% of Plan II students living there may be the only students who requested Honors housing. My Longhorn applied for housing in January of senior year and got into the Honors Quad. Just choose your back-up residence halls thoughtfully in case you end up in one of them. There are many great residence halls at UT and I’m sure you’ll make friends and be happy wherever you live. Hook 'em!
@FloMoMom - you might know the answer to this- DS was accepted to Honors & put in his housing deposit in December. But, then I think I read that the order is more of when you pay your enrollment deposit- which he hasn’t done yet- still waiting on a few RD answers. --> Do you know if it is housing, enrollment, or a combination of both?
Could we pay the $200 and get a contract- then change our mind? (maybe be out $200 or refunded?)
Thanks!
@bookmom7 Residence hall and room assignments are made based on the date you completed your housing application. Your son will be fine if he applied for housing in December. He’ll get into the Honors Quad if that’s where he wants to live.

The enrollment deposit is refundable until May 1. One important thing to note: Your future Longhorn will need to accept the offer of admission to register for orientation. Orientation registration usually opens in early March and some dates fill very fast (in a few hours!). Registration opens on March 10 this year. Mark your calendar now!
After he accepts the UT offer of admission, he will be eligible to receive a housing contract. You may cancel your housing contract prior to Mooov-In, but the advance payment is refundable only to admitted freshmen who decide not to enroll at the university and decline their offer of admission no later than May 1. Students who choose to attend UT and live off-campus are not eligible for a refund of their advance payment.

UT redesigned the Be a Longhorn website last year and it’s really hard to find things now. Hope this information helps someone. Good luck and Hook 'em!
Thank you for all the information!
