Honors Students Get Housing Priority?

I have heard that UT honors students get to choose their dorm rooms before everyone else, regardless of if it is not in a honors dorm and when they paid their housing application fee. Is this true? It sounds almost too good to be true.

No. Unless they change things again this year but, I doubt it based on the housing website that specifically states how timeslots are made:
“Room Selection Timeslots are made based on the date on which a housing application is complete; housing applications are complete only after the $50 housing application fee is posted. A timeslot can only be given to students have a completed housing contract.”

(Used to be Honors students registered first too but, that is no longer the case- maybe that was what you heard…?)

If you haven’t committed to your honors admission yet but have paid the $50 housing application fee, does it hurt your chances to get into the honors dorm? I assume housing contracts are first come first served but based on the date the application fee was submitted? I am confused how this works.

Your date of original housing application is the one that determines your priority in room assignments. You can wait until May 1 to accept your offer of admission and your housing priority will not change. However, you must accept the offer of admission to register for orientation. Orientation dates fill up quickly and registration begins on March 7, 2018.

Once you are accepted into an honors program–Plan II, BHP, Engineering Honors, Liberal Arts Honors etc you are able to select housing in one of the the Honors Quad dorms (Andrews, Blanton, Caruthers). But you can select the dorms only after you pay your $50 housing application fee.
