Middle and high schools start at 7:45, elementary starts at 8:35. High school has block schedules twice a week with late arrival (9am) one day, and early release (2:30) one day. We live next to the high school, so kids can leave at 7:35 (or 7:40 if they want to run!) There are no long commutes in our district.
When I was in high school, our bus came at 6:55, school started at 7:50.

7:56; 0 period at 6:56.

All the public high schools in our district start at 7:15 and get out at 2:30.

School starts at 7:30. That isn’t the rub. The rub is that lunch for MS is at 10:30 (MS and HS are in the same building so there are six lunch waves). When in MS, my kids ate a breakfast snack before leaving for school…about 6:50. They are breakfast at 10:30. They are lunch when they came home at 2:40…or at school on sports days. Then dinner with the family.

ETA…our schools looked into swapping the later elementary school times with the MS/HS early times. They ran into snags with interscholastic sports…our school would not have been able to get to the schools for a 3:00 or 3:30 start time. Plus…it would, have been very dark if our teams didn’t even start until 4:30 or so…and our playing fields do not have lights.

Our public HS starts at 8:25 am. We live close to the school so D2 leaves the house by 8:05. School is over at 3:15 and after school practices are 3:30-6pm. Games (my D1 was in soccer and bball) were JV at 5:30, Varsity at 7pm.

Our public schools have 4 different start times due to shared buses. High school starts about 7:35, Middle 8:15, half of the elementary schools are at 8:55 and the other half are at 9:35.

Ours starts around 8:50. I like it better than an early start, but be careful what you wish for. Some lunches start around 10:40 but the kids aren’t dismissed until almost 4–a long time to go. Consequently, many kids are eating during class, which can be quite distracting. I pick my kid up from sports and it’s pitch dark by the time practice ends. The athletes have no trouble making it to away games since they are simply pulled out of school early every week, such that they could easily miss 1 out of 5 of each of their afternoon classes all season long. It is also not at all unheard of for sports events or certain EC’s to dismiss the kids from school around midnight.

Ours starts at 7:30 and is out by 2:50. This gives them time for after school activities/sports. Only one of my three sons had a hard time waking up for school. I worried when he was in college that he would miss classes, but has more discipline to wake up and tries to have a 9:00 am class as his earliest. My oldest just graduated from college in May. He has to be out the door at 6:40 to get to his job on time so I guess getting up before you want to is part of life.

6:45 for band, 7:45 regular classes begin. His Varsity sport does not begin until 5 so in the fall, it is a long long day, getting home from away games at 10pm. At least he rolls out of bed and into the car in 15 minutes in the morning.

7:30 - 2:30 here for ps grades 7 - 12. The earlier grades are on a different, later, schedule, but I’ll confess to not knowing when it is. It’s been eons since one of mine was in those grades. My youngest is in college now.

8am for both (public) middle and high school. But the bus picks up at 6:40am. School lets out at 2:40; bus drops off at 4pm. My D doesn’t ride the bus because that schedule is nuts. (It’s a <10 minute drive.)

In elementary, you could drop off 30 minutes before class started and pick up 20 minutes after class dismissed; outside of that you had to pay for untrained workers to supervise your kid in the noisy cafeteria. Middle and high let you drop off an hour early and pick up an hour late, with the hour after school supervised by a licensed teacher who helped with homework in the silent library.

Public high school starts at 7:15, S leaves for bus stop at 6:10. Class ends at 2:00, but he stays later for an activity of some sort almost every day.

7:55 I think, done at 2:50.

Our elementary/intermediate schools use the same buses an hour later than the high and middle, they go 9-3:50.

If you think about the research on teens, they should go later, but that conflicts with sports/after school stuff.

Public high school in our town starts at 8:10, and ends at 2:30. About 7or 8 years ago, when my kids were heading to middle school, the town reversed the starting times so that elementary started first, then middle and then high school. It was a good change.

Start 7, I end at 4:30. Horrible when I live an hour away! Especially on those snowy days when I’m waiting for the bus at 5:30 AM.

6:30am

7:33

My kids had to be at the bus stop at 6:52. I think school actually started at 7:15 or so.

8:15a. Private upper school.

My local public high school started at 7:25 am, ended at 2:05 pm. I had to leave my house by 6:25ish am in order to catch the school bus since my school was 20 minutes away and we’d always get there at around 7 am. I hated being there so early but loved being done with school at 2.
