How easy is it to get a job around the Santa Barbara area?

Depends on the girl, and whether she’s willing to give you that “job” or not. ;D

But seriously, you have to be on your A-Game when it comes to job hunting around the Santa Barbara area.

It’s hard, and I highly suspect there are a number of shallow employers anyways.

So, yea. Ranges from impossible to fairly easy, depending on who you are and how you approach your job search.

unless you know somebody, or want to be a waiter/cashier, you pretty much wont get a job.

unemployment rate is relatively low here though

on gaucholink, it says that incoming students must wait a week after school starts to login. will most or all of the jobs be taken by upperclassmem by then? i was awarded work study and I’d rather work than having my parents pay my expenses along with my other siblings in college.

I’ve also heard about the job fairs at ucsb although i expect it to be more about companies looking for seniors after college. I am down with working a minimum wage cashier job lol. Whatever gets the bills paid.

I dont mind working as a chashier haha
In fact, that’s what I’m hoping to work as :P

Here’s the on-campus job fair that crashking mentioned:
[Welcome to Career Services](http://career.ucsb.edu/oncampus/index.html)

Here’s Housing and Residential Services’ jobs page:
[UCSB Student Employment Page](http://appl.housing.ucsb.edu/InHouse/student_employment/applications/default.aspx)
[The dining services positions are the most numerous.

The desk attendant positions listed there have an interview process that require you to attend an informational session - I believe that it’s sometime during the Week of Welcome. It’s usually listed in the WOW calendar. There’s usually a lot of competition for the DA positions.]

The UCen itself has jobs, though I don’t know when they hire. I’m not familiar with the hiring process with the stores/restaurants inside the UCen, but I’m sure you could find out when you get there.

And yes, I would think that there will still be jobs listed on GauchoLink by the time all of you are able to access it (though I can’t speak to work-study openings in particular, as I don’t have any experience with them). In any case, I think the On-Campus Job Fair I linked to earlier is a good enough start for UCSB job hunting.

What about after college?
Would an Engineer grad from UCSB be belittled around Engineer grads Berkeley, Stanford, and other more respected schools?

take pen/paper to the DA (desk attendant) info meeting

Dining common jobs: Someone told me it’s a quite a bit too late to apply if you do so now.

But, there are bound to be spaces opening up.

no…if that were the case, there wouldnt be so many engineering firms in SB and goleta. most of the berkeley folk are looking for jobs in silicon valley, not here.

Flushmaverick, you are soooo effin helpful man!
ahaha
