As Junior year wraps up I am pretty sure I want to go to Northwestern’s McCormick school (through early decision). However I have heard that it is way easier to get in Weinberg. Also I have heard that you once a person gets accepted to Weinberg you can transfer to McCormick before your freshmen year of college even starts.
So… How easy is it to transfer from Northwestern’s Weinberg to Northwestern’s McCormick?
I’m pretty certain that it isn’t way easier to get in to Weinberg.
Transferring between the 2 also shouldn’t be difficult.
I am not sure how easy it is, but it may delay your graduation. I don’t think you can take the first year engineering design program if you are not in McCormick.
There is little to no difference between admissions to these schools beyond needing to audition for the Bienen. So apply to McCormick, not Weinberg. It is easier to go into the school you think you want to stay in. It’s pretty easy to transfer though, so if you end up changing your mind it’s not an issue.
Just a tip
, just refer to them by name. “McCormick” not “Northwestern’s McCormick school”
They let everyone transfer once you’re in. DTC is offered in Winter quarter too (at worse times, however). You should be able to finish on time.
@Crimsonstained7, I prefer “Tech”.
You can transfer as soon as winter quarter! All you need to do is fill out some paperwork.
I don’t think getting into Weinberg is significantly easier than McCormick. Just apply to McCormick if you already have a plan to transfer. It just bothers me when people intentionally apply to different school within college, thinking that it will make you easier to get into the college.
Apply to whatever you’re more passionate about; having a passionate application will do you much more good than sending a less-passionate application to somewhere with a slightly higher acceptance rate, if it even does have a higher rate (NU doesn’t release school-by-school acceptance rates if I recall correctly).
