How employable will I be with a statistics major?

I am just finishing up my freshmen year at community college but I have yet to decide on a major. I have always loved doing math for as long as I can remember. I took an Intro to Stats class I really liked. I thought it was easy and quite fun to do so I was thinking about taking more classes that involved Statistics but I would like to know how employable a Statistics major would be. I have not taken Calculus yet but I plan on taking the class during my spring semester. I was also planning on completing a minor in Economics, Accounting, or Business Administration.

Many statistics graduates seek work in finance or actuarial fields. Choosing in-major and out-of-major electives for your career goals would be helpful. If actuarial work is of interest, take a look at http://www.beanactuary.com .

My first intro to stats class was a complete joke. I figured I would love statistics as well, but I would hold off on forming that opinion until you’ve taken calculus and start doing calculus-based statistics. I ended up taking quite a few statistic classes as part of my degree (Applied Mathematics & Statistics) and I considered my statistics classes a snooze fest. I’d never survive as an actuary.

That being said, I do work on a lot of financial stuff at work that may or may not involve basic statistics. Before I graduated, I started looking into a field called “biostatistics”. If that’s something you think you might like, I would consider it as the pay is decent for a PhD graduate.
