I'm gonna be on a tight budget in college, so I was wondering if it's possible to join a fraternity without having oodles of cash to spend.

bump bump bump

depends on the fraternity

most dues lie between 700-1200 a semester but there are of course some outliers (beta is 1700)

Frats are among the most expensive of any in the country, but inly 33% of Vandy men join them. For sororities, it is very different. It's possible to live on a budget (I had to), but having a few bucks for bars, drinks, cover fees, meals and other niceties is necessary.

So you were able to be in a fraternity and still be frugal?

I was in a professional business fraternity that liked to pretend it was a "real" frat... but being in a real one costs a boatload. So you can be frugal, or you can be in a frat, but you won't have both.

i read somewhere that the average amount of money a Vandy student spends is 80 dollars per week..
