How far do you travel to visit colleges?

I so excited, next wednesday, after my modeling gig, I'm going to CALIFORNIA to look at 3 schools. This is like 3000 miles away. On thursday I have interviews for Claremont McKenna and Harvey Mudd. I never done an interview before so this will be interesting. On Friday morning I'm doing Caltech's Preview (as they like to call it). I think I would like to apply EA there, and I have a good friend who is going there next year.

So, How far have you traveled to VISIT colleges before you were admitted?
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Does anyone want to share their experience of a caltec preview or a memorable interview?

I've traveled really far, about twenty miles (!) away from my city for college.

100 miles is as far as I went (I live in SF and I visited to Davis). Funny thing is, I'm going to college 1700 miles from home.

So far, six miles.

I only traveled about 1 1/2 driving from Northern NJ to Princeton, though after acceptances came I went up to Boston. Just some advice: don't be afraid to ask questions because from what I've experienced the tour guides have no problems being candid about their own school, so don't worry to much about that. And I would say ask if you could see a classroom. Oh, and awesome that you're doing a Harvey Mudd interview, maybe it'll be with Greg McCandless he's a pretty cool guy. Well good luck with everything and safe trip.

Went up to New York with a friend to tag along on her college visits. Hour plane flight, two hours driving from there. I'm really only seriously considering Syracuse-Newhouse.

Otherwise I've only seen some schools in Virginia besides the state Uni; I live in Maryland (none of them schools I'm going to even apply to...LOL).

I think my Mom is going to take me to Northwestern because I want to apply ED there, so it's a worthwhile trip!

Drove to east coast (I'm in Chicago) and also flew to West Coast to see schools. Driving to the east coast was so terrible, but I really think visiting helped me a lot.

Philly ----> Miami
Philly ----> CT
Philly ----> Mass.

Done.

Flew from Denver to San Francisco and driving to St. Louis. Fairly distant.

los angeles, CA -> pittsburgh, PA -> west lafayette, IN -> ann arbor, MI -> back to los angeles, CA. all in 1 trip.

I hope you didn't do it in that order riyam. I would have done Pitt - Michigan - Purdue or Purdue - Michigan - Pitt otherwise you're just going in a V rather than a line.

I didn't visit the school I'm at now (Caltech) before I got accepted and went to their Prefrosh weekend, because my family lives in eastern Pennsylvania. However, we did drive up to MIT/Harvard and Cornell, since they weren't that far away. Although this goes to show that it is not necessary to visit a college before you apply (possibly ultimately get admitted and end up going there).

Funny, I did the same thing, since time really wasn't on my side I didn't visit the school I would ultimately attend until after I had been accepted, so..

Los Angeles
-USC
-UCLA

Yep.

there were specific presentation dates and i didn't really mind the amtrak ride

I don't plan on going to visit colleges. I don't have the time nor the money.
