How focused is the mathematics program in CAS

Hello everyone, thanks for your input.

Recently I went to an admitted event for class of 2020, and while listening to the dean of CAS speak, I noticed a couple of things. He seemed to really be pushing the fact that NYU’s CAS provides a very well rounded experiance and a lot of the focus is on building better humans.

Now I get that. Its part of why I applied to a liberal arts school. But I love math and computer science and with the way he pushed it, it felt like the college was almost “coddling” the students (probably the wrong word, but hopefully you get my intent). I want this program to be damn hard, face melting if possible. I am not interested in a school that would comprimise my learning in math and computer science for other requirements. I know that Courant Institute is widely known as one of the best in mathematics, but does the undergraduate program hold itself up to similar standards?

Am I panicking for no reason?

On a side note, if anyone themselves is applying as a math major at nyu and wants to chat schedules just post.

I was thinking about doing a double major in math and I heard it’s pretty challenging since they hold their math students to such high standards, but there are liberal arts requirements and about 50% of your curriculum will be in the liberal arts, if not more.
