How generous is SCU with non-need based scholarships

DD will be applying EA. She has 2300 SAT, Math2 800, 3.95 UW GPA and 4.5 WGPA, National AP scholar, Nordstrom Scholarship finalist, California Board of Education Student Member semi-finalist, possible NMF, good EC, leaderships, research at well-known summer program (will be entering her project into competitions), etc. She will be applying as Computer Science and Engineering major. How generous are they with financial aid? She will not qualify for a need-based aid. Is there a separate application for a non-need based scholarships?

Your daughter has great stats. There is no separate application for scholarships and applying EA she will know by Christmas! Read more about the Johnson Scholar’s Program, I believe she would be in the running for that. They would let her know if she is in the running and there is nothing to do until that point. She could be a semi-finalist and would know in Feb, then there is another essay. The process is in the link below. I have a CS&E major starting this fall on merit scholarship (same as you, wouldn’t qualify for need based). They are good to the top applicants and your daughter seems to be in that range. But just below that (but still in the upper range), frankly, I have friends that didn’t get nearly as much as other schools. But SCU CS&E is very hot now so those applying keep getting more competitive. Mine just did orientation and loved it. Good luck!

Thank you @CADREAMIN

My son will also starting this fall - he is a CS & E major, too. He was offered a full merit scholarship (Presidential) based on his high SAT scores and his application essay. Given her stats and extracurricular a, I’d say your daughter has an excellent chance of getting a merit scholarship. My only recommendation is that she should take care in her essays to show how her goals and values aline with the school’s goals and values.

@ballerina16 - Here it is August and even on an anonymous internet forum, I am still forbidden to discuss any of mine’s specifics on any of her scholarships whether full, partial, trustees, presidential, etc., she didn’t even tell her best friend what she got from various schools cause she likes to keep some things private and didn’t want to make anyone feel bad or seem like she was boasting. So I am always careful how I say things since she knows my username, but I should have made it more clear that virtually all scholarships are awarded at admissions (partials to fulls) - which is what I meant with knowing by Christmas. Some Johnson Scholars are the only ones that have to wait longer, it is grade and leadership focused. Even though not required, that perfect math2 score with that SAT score is a sweet combination. I think having AP Calc BC and AP Physics B junior year (and AP tests) helped mine too, then multivarible as a senior, meaning rigorous load. Everything adds up to help get the bigger prizes  Agree with @suenos53 about essays fitting the SCU mission (no pun intended)! That is important.

Thank you @suenos and @CADREAMIN

DD will be applying EA. We are looking for a large merit scholarships and would really like for our DD to stay in California.

@ballerina16, I think your daughter had an excellent chance to get a great scholarship. I believe she has the stats. It’s a matter of school fit which she can integrate into her essays. When we read the school’s mission and the emphasis on ethics, we believed this school would be a good match. Best wishes to your daughter as she goes through the application process!
@CADREAMIN, I just need to add a California to my name and we’d be twins!
