I’ve taken the sat two times. BOTH times, I’ve gotten 1450 when I’ve been reaching for >1500. I’m happy with my math score, but not so much with writing and reading. I heard about the Erica Meltzer Critical Reader book, but I’d love to hear your opinions to see if i should get it. I need to increase my score by 100 points, as i usually get around 690 for reading + writing.
This is my last shot at the SAT, i need to know if this book is good!
I think that The Critical Reader is a great resource! But you need to really read it and do the work, just ‘skimming it’ won’t help you out. I like her grammar book too.
@3scoutsmom Awesome! I hope this can help me bring up my score!
Her book is excellent, but as 3scoutsmom suggested, you’ll have to budget a lot of time and go through all of the material.
The Web site No Red Ink is a great place to review grammar if those are the questions you’re missing on SAT Writing.
Those resources together should be able to get you to 750-790 on the verbal side. For me at least, it’s been easier to then turn around and focus on math, as the hardest questions in Math seem to be easier than the hardest questions in Reading. Steve Warner’s Advanced Course (28 New SAT Math lessons) has been very helpful for me, and I was already scoring 33-35 on ACT Math before starting his book.
