I am surprised they told you on the phone, I didn’t think that was allowed. Nice that they did though, so you didn’t have to wait. Still, like I said, ask them to resend the letter so you have it in writing.

I just want to say something about the Community Service Scholarship… Last year when my daughter applied, she did not receive it. Not a huge surprise considering the competition, but I think it is important for people to be aware of what happened. The application, http://admission.tulane.edu/documents/AppDocuments/CommunityServiceScholarship20112012.pdf
clearly states that you are to write 2 one paragraph responses about your community servce. My daughter followed the rules. It was extremely hard to limit her VAST service commitments to 2 paragraphs but with so much at stake she did. Well, the winners of this award, while very deserving, did NOT follow the rules. Its seems like all of them, (but probably just most), sent in pictures, videos, scrapbooks, artwork, etc. to bolster their application. Had my daughter known that this was allowed, she too would have done that and thus would have had a much better shot at this award. I think that rules should be followed. I did call the school (at the time), and they said that the extras were optional. I understand that, but NOWHERE on the application are any extras mentioned. In our view we thought that NOT following the rules was an easy way to weed out some of the applicants. But this was not the case. They were rewarded with the scholarship. When I called (at the time) they said that this year they would mention it on the application but they did not. I am not telling anyone to NOT follow the rules, but it might be a good idea to call the school to find out if this is allowed so you can actually have a shot in this compettion. and yes… though my daughter decided to go to school elsewhere and is very happy there, after almost a year I am still bitter.

oh and just to add insult to injury, they first sent the negative decision to my address but to the name of the boy who lives a few streets over. When I called the school asking them to send my daughters letter, they did resend it. Again to our address but with a different persons name. Sorry for the rant, but like I said, I am still bitter.
