80+ and it won’t hurt you. 70’s and 60’s may hurt, but there are plenty of kids at HADES schools in that range.

My grades were very good. I was ranked 1 of 86 on my team and probably 1 of ~280 in my grade. I’m bright, but I’m no genius. I work extremely hard to earn my grades, and I think that the schools appreciated that

History-------------------------A+/A /A+
Algebra I Accelerated-----------A+/A+/A+
Science------------------------A+/A+/A+
English-------------------------A+/A+/A+
Foreign Language---------------A+/A+/A+

I was pretty much unhooked. Well rounded, but unhooked. 4 sports, instrument, tons of clubs, organizations, fundraisers for charitable causes, ect.

Amazing interview and essays (probably what got me in)

benevolent, what did exeter comment on that was your strong abilities… they sed my strong reps, leadershiop and confidence, and my hockey abilities.

They told me that:

I had a great passion
An outgoing personality
Prodigious leadership

I thought it was normal for everyone, guess not.

cool- Exeter said it was my son’s determination, leadership and strong moral compass! I love that it was different for everyone!

Notice: leadership was in all three so to anyone applying next year to Exeter try to demonstrate leadership!

Mine mentioned

my strong sense of humor (being the class clown finally pays off…)
love of learning
academic record at school
strong recommendations

Rejected due to:

Hopelessly low SSATs
Terrible recommendation
Athletic failure
Morbid sense of humor
PESSIMISM
(how my rejection letter will look like in 1 year’s time ;A; )

benev- are you going to exeter revisit day?

Divealive: NOOOO , I have never seen you be pessimistic before! Remember leesh? How did he/she do in the end?

Yep! I’m revisiting at Exeter, Andover, Middlesex, Groton, and Hotchkiss.

Hehe, PA-C! It was… an accident! I don’t know where that came from ;A;

Joking… CC is extremely self esteem lowering, though. >w>
However, I’ll probably be okay. :D

@ benevolent: oh wooow. amazing schools… I’d kill myself picking! Haha!
(by the way, i’ll kill to be in your spot. just so you know)
okay, i know that involves killing people, and then killing myself, so that doesn’t make too much sense, but it’s in a figurative way. you know?
do you have a preference towards a certain school ?

Haha!

I think that I’m leaning towards Andover and Hotchkiss at this point. After I revisit everywhere I’ll redress the situation. BTW, I am killing myself choosing!

Lean totally towards Andover. It would be a good decision.

Just to add to what schools said:

Brooks: Leadership Abilities, Global Understanding, Speaking Skills
Andover: Application was very easy to say “Yes” to, a perfect fit for the school.

I don’t really know what Milton said.

Soontoboard: what a wonderful comment from Andover! Congratulations! Does Andover have a more foreign affairs/political science focus (besides the Bushes which I know about)?

… I hear the PA tends to be more casual and extremely strong in the humanities.

PEA is know for being a bit more nerdy, slightly smarter, excellent in the maths and sciences, and more formal.

That’s a stereotype… Don’t believe all that crap…

haha

I would disagree about “slightly smarter.”

The more formal comes only from the fact that Exeter has a dress code and Andover doesn’t.

However, what I’m pretty sure (from what little I know because I didn’t know anything about the schools until I visited. I think this is the general consensus though.) is true is that the two schools lean like so:

Andover:
English, History, Foreign Language

Exeter:
Math, Science

yah, I know that it is just stereotypes

when is everyone visiting andover and exeter, im going 6th to exeter, 7th andover.

This has been mentioned before but boarding schools seek to admit a person, not a resume. They want character, personality, passion. My stats in terms of EC’s and awards and scores was not even close to some others who got rejected at schools I was unexpectedly accepted at. I truly believe my interviews are what got me accepted. Think about your interview. What are you going to say? What do you want the interviewer to know about you? What kind of impression do you want to leave with them? Think about your passions, and focus them. Whether it be a subject, an activity, a call to action, let your passions shine in your interview and in your essays. Don’t worry too much about the SSATs. For verbal, just look up every word you don’t know, go through the books and learn the latin strategies. There is plenty of time to prepare yourself.

Nice sentiment… Just from reading that I can tell you are top school material… :P
