I get about 27k a year in fin. aid (20k grant, 2k in NM, 2.5k Work study, 1.5k in sub. stafford). That’s almost exactly my efc.

hmm, now is that based on institutional or federal methodology. cuz northwestern says it uses both but im not sure what that means.

The family income charts are pretty accurate. Dunno which those are.

bump? 10char

Horrible, in my case. They’re giving me a lousy 6K, which means I still have to pay 47K. My efc was a 25K … this definitely deters me from attending NU.

What is the northwestern scholarship? I got $32,000 of that, but I’m not sure if that’s renewable for four years. And National Merit should be 2000 per year at NU, right?

Dante, that’s the grant money. You get that every year assuming your finanicals stay the same.

i didnt turn in my IDOC yet… (mailing it tomorrow). is this way too late to hope that they’ll review me for any FA this yr? (i didnt expect to get in along with yale, so i never bothered with the idoc) :(

Does NU have merit scholarships (besides the 2k national merit)?

Dragonwriter, have you tried contacting the financial aid office to explain your situation? Because that sounds like something that would merit a second look at the aid you were offered. Of course, I don’t know anything about NU’s review policies, but it’s worth a shot if you really want to attend.

Hey i’m an international student who got accepted into NU without financial aid (rejected duke and chic cos of fin aid. this i know cos a mate with lower scores from same high school got accepted to both. He applied without fin aid to all schools)
I was wondering if there was a possibility that i could apply for financial aid in my second year? (would they allow it if i get A+ average?)

Is the financial aid information online or by snail mail??

It says on the website:

Financial Aid News
Newly Admitted Students

Students whose applications materials were received by the deadline dates will receive their aid decisions via U.S. mail.

I got mine online. At the top of the NU homepage, there’s a link to Caesar. If you’ve set up your account using the info from the admission letter, just use that to log in, then go to View Financial Aid.

But you’ll probably get the same information in the mail.

It says my financial aid information is unavailable. Is that tied to the fact our tax returns have not been received yet?

i just checked online and all they gave me was a 3.5k stafford loan and no grants. my efc is 17k. i wouldnt say thats too good. is it possible they made a mistake? or do they base it on something else?

They gave me nothing but LOANS…How am I supposed to afford that???

Northwestern will cost me $19,700.

That’s sorta steep, considering I was expecting <$10,000.

Maybe this will change when my parents and I update them on our situation…

this is amazing!!! my efc was 41K and NU gave me 20.5K, so I’m left with only like 27 or so…not bad at all! (income is about 150K)

my fafsa efc is roughly $7000, but according to NU, my family has to pay $22,000.

that’s practically half of our income, and the other half is already going towards my sister’s law school tuition.

i don’t know what to do. :(

You need to call up the Financial Aid office and discuss the fact you can’t afford to attend with the current aid package given to you. If you go into the Financial Aid and Scholarships area of the forums, someone should be able to give you specifics on how to do appeal or negotiate with them.
