How is SBU for undergrad? Is it too easy? I like GWU though.

haha dude i thought nobody else was doing it. I applied a while ago and got an invitation for their first interview. Apparently they have 2, one at SBU and another in DC at GW.
I’m in the same position to, i really like GWU but not really SBU. However, no mcat is soo awesome, so idk.

Thanks guy for the response. Hear this. I got $20K in scholarship money from SBU and look at the following comparisons.

SBU cost per year = 36K-20K =16K
GWU Med per year = 44k

Total cost of education: = 64K @ SBU + 175 K @ GWU = 239K.

I am guranteed to get admitted at UCF/USF program and look at the costs

UCF undergrad for years @ $4K from my pocket = 12K
USF Med school for 4 years @ 27K = $108 K

Total cost = $130K

Also look at the weather in Florida and get to go home during weekends for foof and laundry etc.

I need to score 28 in MCAT for USF admit. No big deal. Maintain a 3.7 GPA, no biggie.

The other major diff is Med school GWU vs. USF. It does not really matter. I am leaning towards, UCF/USF.

What do you think?

Well, if money is an issue, i would say go with UCF/USF. 3.7 and 28 isnt too hard, UCF isnt too bad and since you live in florida (im guessing) then that’s another plus.

HOWEVER, if money isnt much of an issue, and you want a more prestigous medical school then GWU is the place to be, also you can’t beat DC. No Mcat will make your life soo much easier and a 3.6 gpa at St. bonaventure will be no problem; you’ll be able to experience college life with no stress.

I also got the 20k so im looking foward to SBU/GWU, since i didnt apply anywhere out of North east coast-where i live. But like you, its just a possibility, there are of course other programs i might consider if i get in…btw if you dont mind me asking, how do you know you’ll get into both programs? I’m sure both are competitive

So if you get the 20K it’s 16K, but how much FAFSA money will you get?

Suppose a household with 50,000-55,000 yearly income?

I need to it to be comparable to in-state for me to even consider it.

Hope I get an interview date.

Did you get the SBU admission thru mail or did you check on their website, the login they gave me does not work so I can’t check. Applied 2 weeks back but haven’t heard back, how did it take you guys to hear back?

It took me around 2 and a half weeks before I got osmething in the mail.

jjtheairplane,

I noticed that UCF/USF bumped the MCAT to 30 same as UM. Boston U has the same req. I am not sure who would I pick

1) After passing St. Bona interview, does anyone know when GWU interview will be?

2) Will the interview be combined between BA/MD GW program alone and SBU/GWU program?

@Satacer
In my opinion, i dont think a 30 is too hard. Just by seeing your stats, you’ll probably get 27-28 with little or no preperation. You might have to work some but hey, its worth it for the money, i mean you’re cutting your expenses in half by going to UCF/USF.

@Inguye02
- i’m not sure, it never said
- i think it’s alone, but i’m not sure because i didnt apply to GW/GW

Inguye02
- The GWU Interview is supposed to be right after the Bona, because we need to commit by the end of March.

I’m pretty sure the interview is alone because there’s a separate one for the GW BS/MD

hey everyone. I am a high school junior- really interested in the sbu/gw program. Did anyone get accepted and maybe you could share some of your stats thanks!

my interview is jan 22 and im actually super excited! when i visited bona the ppl there were sooo nice and awesome - a totally chill place

Congratulations! Do you know how many people are called in for interviews? I think like 15 people are eventually accepted into the program? Maybe you can post some of your stats? Thanks!

GAHHH SO EXCITED!!! All the people are so nice and actually helpful, and the program looks amazing. (tehe my number one choice :D)
i got my interview invitation on December 16th, and to my knowledge the last interview date is on January 31st (so invitations should be sent at LEAST a week before that, i would say even two or three) However, im oos, so maybe he sent it earlier? I dont know.

My stats were honestly pretty bad so when I got the email saying i got the interview I honestly thought I was out. Maybe you did too?

Wait did you send in the supplement by mail the day before the deadline? You know all the materials had to be THERE by the deadline. They were kind of picky on that i think, because i emailed them and they suggested i send it out 15 days before it was due.

Though mine did get there only a few days before the deadline so im pretty bad too.
Procrastinators ftw.

on the website it says that but in an email he sent me it says
“. The deadline for your application, transcripts, and letters of reference is RECEIVED HERE by Dec. 15, 2010.” and later on “Late and “last minute” applications hurt your candidacy.”

Though it also says
“Other [non-medical] volunteering/service work is good, too.” :)

(sorry if im sounding a bit rude, in a bad mood right now for no reason at all so dont take me personally at all)

i got my notification of interview at sbu along with acceptance just so you knowww

yeah and a nifty t-shirt…anyone interviewing on the 22nd?!
also, to answer the initial question in this forum: no MCAT > any MCAT

the t-shirt was XL…i am not obese

I’m interviewing on the 22nd, group A. .

I second that, no MCAT> MCAT, although sometimes i think people over-exaggerate it, i mean if you score 1400 + on the SAT, you should atleast get 30 on MCAT.

and 650 + on subject tests

Oh and my screenname refers to this <a href=“Jay Jay the Jet Plane - YouTube”>Jay Jay the Jet Plane - YouTube;
