Or just the engineering program as a whole? Also how does it compare with Cal Poly SLO? Is it worth the extra cost over SLO for engineering? I really love the campus and the spirit of the school, but is the "Trojan Family" really needed for engineering? (specifically civil engineering)

Viterbi was actually ranked 7th in 2009, although its 10th now.

I know its been a while, but… any thoughts??
(BUMP)

Given that likely none of us have taken classes at both USC and cal poly slo I think the only thing we can goo off are rankings and other comparative measures. In those categories USC ranks above cpslo.

And the Trojan Family is not just a job placement agency. You never know what benefits could come from it, and what forms it might take.

I did engineering at USC, though back in the early 80s. The Viterb School of Engineering is very well respected nationwide and attracts some of the best professorial talent in the country.

I graduated industrial and systems engineering after switching from aerospace (too hard!), but several friends were in the civil engineering program and found it very challenging and comprehensive. They do a lot of research into building structures to survive earthquakes, which gives their program a unique Southern California flair.

I think the more important factor for you is to find the right fit. USC and SLO are different from each other, and you will likely be happier at one than the other.
