How hard are the ACT's?

Is it harder than the SAT I? Do you need heavy preparation beforehand like you do for the SAT I? What is the level of difficulty on these tests and how high do you need to score? Do you even need to take it if you have sufficient SAT I and SAT II scores?

I did not take the SAT I, but I can give you some input. The SAT and the ACT play on different strengths. The SAT I has more difficult questions, and you need to like thinking through a problem. The ACT has relatively simple problems, but the timing hurts some people. Unless you are a fast reader, I suggest that you do a lot of practice tests. I took a lot of practice tests, and I found that my score increased a lot because of that. I started preparing the summer before my junior year and took it in April, and I was very satisfied with my scores. Some people I know got away with less preparation because it just depends on what kind of test taker you are. If you can afford a tutor, get one.

If you have good SAT i and SAT ii scores, then you do not need to take the ACT. Not unless you honestly think you will do better on the ACT.

Good luck. :)
