Right now I’m in AP Bio and I’m doing fine, I will be taking AP Chem senior year, but haven’t taken regular chem since sophomore year. (I’ll also have 2-3 other APs) Thank you!!!
It’s pretty hard… I’m taking it this year as a sophomore and it’s a lot of extra studying to understand the tricky concepts. You might have to work harder since it’s been so long since you took regular chemistry, you’ll probably need a refresher on the concepts. But if you’re dedicated and you truly enjoy the subject, then by all means go for it. I find the class very enjoyable despite it’s difficulty.
AP chem wasn’t that hard, concept-wise. However I am not sure how other teachers do it but my teacher for AP chem assigned over 30 problems for homework a week! Also we did a lab experiment and had a quiz and a test every week. I probably did the most work in that class out of all the AP classes I took.
The class is not going to be easy but if your teacher is good and you do the homework and study, you should be able to understand the concepts even though some of them can be quite challenging.
Depends on the teacher for sure, at other schools I know the whole class does relatively well. At my school no one gets an A, because the teacher doesn’t teach too much, gives almost daily quizzes, grades labs harshly, and gives really difficult tests. As far as pure substance, as others have said the material is definitely difficult - no admissions counselor will look down on you much for a B - but completely manageable with the right study habits and a good teacher.
It’s kind of one of those classes where you have to get it. AP Bio is a lot of studying and memorizing but chem is you have to have the concepts and calculations down. Workbooks videos and hearing different people explain things helps a lot.
