I'm self-studying this class right now and I want to know people's opinions about the exam that took it.

EASY
I took it the 09-10 school year. I read Barron once during winter break without making a lot of effort to remember the stuff then read again in late Mar/early Apr (this time a lot slower and pay more attention to details and took some notes).
I didn’t review again because I was busy with Human Geography and Environmental Science.
Before the exam, I review the notes.
I felt like I did well on the exam.
Oh yeah, besides Barron I also skim through 5 Steps to a 5.
If I have to choose between 1 of the, 5 to 5 is better. A combination is the best.
I also bought Crash Course, Kaplan but again was too busy with Human Geography to read those in whole. Though I did read some chapters from the most frequently tested areas.
I heard Crash Course is really good. Dark Knight wrote a really good review on Prep books here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/ap-tests-preparation/885433-ap-psychology-best-text-best-prep-books-worst-prep-books-real-tests.html

The AP exam is very manageable if you use Barron’s and Crash Course. 5 steps is an excellent book as well, and the end of chapter “rapid reviews” helped me ace class tests this past year. I’m sure you could substitute it in for Barron’s if you like its style better. Good luck! As long as you get through the material and understand majority of it, a 5 is definitely plausible.

I’m self studying AP Psychology too. First year taking any AP exams. I’m not going to wing them though. I already started studying and I will be very pleased if I can get a 5 on both Psychology and APES. :D
