How hard is it to get a full scholarship at Indiana?

I’m a junior and I live in Ohio, and my top choices are UT Austin, Michigan and UNC Chapel Hill, but of course I can’t be 100% sure on any of those so Indiana is sort of like my safety, but I’m definitely interested in going there. I’m visiting with some friends and their families next weekend so I’m excited about that. The financial aspect of college is not that big of an issue for my family, tuition won’t stop me from going anywhere or applying anywhere but it’s something to consider, so I’m going to try and get some kind of aid or scholarship because if they don’t have to, why should my parents pay? So I was just wondering if I have any chance to get a full scholarship at IU or at least a good amount of scholarship money from them since it’s expensive from OOS

Also I want to major in Sports Management/Marketing (What they call it in the school of public health), so not something as competitive as Kelley

My stats:
GPA: (After 1st semester) Weighted: 3.999 Unweighted: 3.80. Unless I completely screw up this semester weighted will definitely be a tiny bit above 4 and unweighted probably still around 3.8
ACT: 33 (also 33 superscore)
Classes: This year I’m taking AP Micro, Macro, US Government, and Calculus AB
Last year I took APUSH, and Honors Biology, freshman year I also took 1 honors class. Our school has like 25 APs (I’m gonna take at least 3 more next year) and not that many Honors Classes, so I’d say my course rigor is hard but not the hardest probably like a 4 out of 5.
ECs: Sports Editor of Student Newspaper
Member of Business Club, Stock Club, Israeli Culture Club
I work 5 hours a week at a Software Engineering Firm (I do maintenance so like dishes, cleaning, taking out the trash, anything I’m needed to do)
National Honor Society
Over 100 hours community service/volunteer work
Did a sports management pre-college program at UT Austin last summer
I’ve played golf all 3 years, soccer 1 year and probably next year, and basketball 1 year for the school and 2 years in Cleveland Jewish Basketball League
Did the Leadership Conference at my school, will be participating next year too
Also there’s a good chance that next year I will be a LINK Leader (Run the freshman orientation and help them get acclimated to high school)

So yeah I kinda put a little too much that it seems like a chances thread. UT Austin is my dream school but the opportunity of going to IU for a low cost is very appealing too.

Do I have any chance at getting a big or even full scholarship? Thanks!

If you are a minority then you might have a chance, but I still wouldn’t count on it. If not, your chances to get a full ride are essentially 0. You could realistically get up to $11000 a year

I had a 4.4 weighted GPA and 34 ACT and am white, and I got the max of $8000 a year for the IU Achievement scholarships and nothing else. I know people that are minorities and had similar/slightly worse stats than me got a full ride. The same scholarship I got gives a max of $11000 for OOS, but I live in Indiana. You have a shot at getting the max for that. Also, doesn’t care that much about EC’s

@iubaccounting yeah I’m white so that’s a little disappointing, but 11k a year is not bad at all. Also, when is the earliest they send out acceptance letters? I would like to apply here as early as possible and get the acceptance and everything taken care of so I can focus on other applications.

If you do Honors College you can also get up to 5k more, so 16k a year max

@pschnee. I believe that you can apply as early as August 1st. IU has a quick turn-around so you will probably know within a few weeks, especially with your stats!

My son has similar stats and was accepted to the Hutton Honors College and was also invited to apply for their Selective Scholarships. He got the max Dean’s Scholarship of $11,000/year and was also given a $3,000/year Global Studies Scholarship. He has applied for an additional $3,000/year Honors Scholarship, which we have not gotten a decision on yet. So he may get $17,000/yr and already has $14,000. I think that IU is very generous with strong students so you should do well. Good luck!

Just make sure you apply to some schools in Ohio as well.

There are some very good instate options in Ohio, with merit chances as well.

Your parents might not want to pay OOS costs for Michigan, IU, UNC, UT Austin if they can save money.

You can also apply to some OOS schools that offer guaranteed merit for your stats.

U Alabama, Temple for example.

Not answering your question because I don’t know the answer, but chiming in as UT Austin was also my dream school at one point and I ended up at IU. I understand it’s a safety, but Sports Management at IU is not even in the same stratosphere as those other schools you mentioned. If sports marketing/management is your ultimate goal, you have a better chance coming from Kelley than the School of Public Health.

If you’re set on doing sports marketing, how about entering IU as a Kelley student then switch out if you decide you don’t like it. It won’t put you behind at all, but switching from Kelley to Sports Marketing will require filling out a form, while Sports Marketing to Kelley will be extremely difficult.

“If you do Honors College you can also get up to 5k more, so 16k a year max”

Hutton? I don’t recall an extra $5k mentioned in my daughter’s Hutton acceptance :). Is this for OOS or both IS and OOS?

@turbo93 Not every Hutton student gets a scholarship. I am in Hutton and I didn’t get one

That’s what I thought… My daughter got the obligatory automatic scholarship + $1K/year for NMSF/NMF (really? $1K for NMF?) and applied for the selective ones, no results in yet.

@mommdc read what i said in the original post…they are willing to pay for any of those schools, they want me to go where I want. Of course they’d rather pay less but they can pay for the out of state tuition at those schools.

@Candlewoodgal thanks, that’s awesome for your son @hkem123 yeah I see where you’re coming from, I just want a career in the sports industry as an agent, working for a team, or anything, I’m not set on like one specific thing. I just want to major in sport management wherever I go because it’s business oriented but also interesting and not boring (to me) like accounting or something like that.

I believe IU has rolling admissions - but apply before November 1 for merit scholarships. If you apply after November, you will not be eligible for merit.

IU is known for being stingy with merit scholarships, btw. I know a girl in Indiana who had a 4.0, but only a 28 ACT, and got NOTHING. Their parameters for merit are narrow, but I think yours fit in.

@BeeDAre Yeah, I read that on their website. I’m applying everywhere I can as early as possible (before November 1st for basically everywhere) so I’ll definitely be applying to IU in September or maybe even late August. For someone with my stats, how long after I apply do you think I will get a decision?

@pschnee It usually takes a few weeks. I don’t think decision time is dependant on stats

DA to Kelly and also Hutton. OSS and got the $44K offer as I think most do, but maybe wrong on that point. Submitted online app for scholarships but no one at IU or Kelly has an answer as to when notifications will go out. Anyone already at Kelly know?
