I have a 3.5 gpa, 2170 sat's. does that seem on par with admission to carnegie mellon with an undergraduate major of business at Tepper?

To be completely honest, the school is truly top tier and the major problem you will have is GPA. Your SAT score looks solid and on par with admission expectations there. I don't, of course, know anything more about you in terms of URM status, quality of writing, life story, EC's so I can't be counted on for a valid prediction.

My essays are good, EC's are ok, Recs are good, but nothing spectacular. so probably not. on the other hand, average high school gpa at carnegie mellon is 3.6. so i am not totally out of range right?

if the 3.5 is weighted... then yes.

i am also applying to tepper with a 4.4 gpa and a 2220 sat and i consider it a match...

its a reach, but you definitely have a shot

good luck

you mean unweighted right? and the answer is yes, the 3.5 is unweighted. but how do colleges count weighted? AP's and honors?

We would need to know your rank or strength of HS. If average is 3.6 and you have a 3.5 at a top high school, you're fine.

I consider my high school very strong. dual curriculum and we always have a bunch of students out of a small class of 80 students who go to ivies, and the majority of the class goes to top 100 colleges. my gpa is 3.5, and i am probably top 15-20% of the class, but my school does not release rank.

gpa is a little low, but the test scores are above average, so with only that information, its a match for you

I heard its one of the most competitive schools to get into for CM since they has such a low enrollment

I'd call it a reach for you. Tepper's acceptance rate, from their website, was 13.8% last year.

You should be very competitive. Just make clear on your application that it is your first choice--if that is true.

ermmm i dont know if it is. so for all you people saying math or reach, can you give me reasons or questions? i can probably answer most of them. and i have not taken my sat 2s yet. for business i should probably take math 2 right? just bombed the practice test :o(. any suggestions on which other sat 2 to take? physics? literature? history?

thanks

bump i guess. any other opinions?

The business schools absolutely want to see mathII. What's your mathI score?
