how hard is it to get into engineering (out-of-state)

i have been looking at some stats and it looks like the engineering program is a lot harder to get in then the rest of the school, also 85% of students are in state. will the fact the illinois is having budget issues and out-of-state pays more then double in-state?

Illinois isn’t that bad if you look at UCs and some other state funded schools, OOSer pay 3 times the tuition as in state citizen. And which state is not poor at this down time?

OOS are evaluated on the same basis as in state for admission. OOS admission rate is close to same as in state. The fact that only about 10% to 12% of those admitted are OOS/international simply reflects that only about 10% to 12% of all applicants are OOS/international. The engineering admission rate is actually one of the highest usually greater than 70% so if you are in the engineering college’s usual middle 50% range (top 8% to top 2% class rank and 30 to 33 ACT last year) chances are good.
