Did anyone read the article from the Chicago Tribune about Illinois taking too many out of state students last year? There is a state mandate that they only allowed to take 10% out of state students and last year more out of state students accepted offers of acceptance so it pushed the percentage up to about 13% which angered the in-state people including the legislators. I wonder if that will hurt the out of state applicants this year.?....I am an out of state applicant trying to get into the school of engineering. It is tough enough to get into! I have a 3.6 and a 30 ACT with honors, AP and lots of EC's and some good essays. Don't know if that will be enough!

Consider Wisconsin. 35% OOS limit. Very good engineering school.

I think you have around 80% chance of getting in. I think getting ACT above 30 is sufficient. ( comparing to last year stat)

There is no 10% OOS limit mandate. UIUC still admits OOS using same criteria (ranges) as in-state. Your chances are no different than students from last year. Your ACT is actually on the lower end of the middle 50% range. You do not give class rank but that is what is used not GPA and they estimate rank if high school does not do so. Middle 50% range class rank last year was top 10% to top 3%.

State kids squeezed out at U. of I. -- chicagotribune.com

Here is the link to the Chicago Tribune story from Sept. 14th about U of I being pressured to take more in state students. They may look at out of state kids the same but they can only aim to enroll 10-12% of them compared to 30% for Wisconsin. Pretty tough for out of staters. Does not make for a very diverse student body. Good for the Illinois residents...I guess.
