How hard is it to get into Stanford graduate school from UCLA undergrad?

I got into both UC Berkeley and UCLA for Mechanical Engineering, and I actually prefer UCLA because it's closer to home and its difficulty level isn't as frightening as Berkeley's difficulty level. However, my dream graduate school is Stanford. Is it extremely difficult to get into Stanford for graduate school from UCLA undergrad? Should I go to Berkeley instead so that I can have a better chance to get into Stanford afterwards?

Work hard and get great greats at either of those schools and you’ll have a chance for grad school at Stanford. No guarantees, but I think if you prefer UCLA, go to UCLA. Being happy in your undergrad will help you get better grades!

This is also my question. I also got into both Berkeley and UCLA but I already SIR’d to UCLA. Do you know anyone who got to Stanford or Cal Tech from UCLA?

I got into Stanford for a PhD program coming from a state school that is ranked way lower than UCLA. In my opinion where you do your undergraduate education will not dictate where you can possibly go for your graduate education. During my interview at Stanford I met people who were studying at schools ranging from MIT to unknown liberal arts college to big state university to small state university.

Good luck.

Thanks Orimsz for sharing your experience.
