How hard is it to get into the Philomathean Society?

I know any sort of creative or analytical writing can be submitted, but is it a more relaxed process where anyone who puts in a fair amount of effort into their submission can get in, or is it an intense competition? I know I shouldn't be doing this, but I'm REALLY hoping to join if I somehow get in.

I have a few close friends in the society. They fit in with the intellectual vibe of the society, all are incredibly intelligent and have a wide range of intellectual interests. I think they really enjoy many of the events and lectures. Something they dislike about it is that they feel they selection process is very arbitrary. I think they said it has to be a unanimous decision so it also is highly dependent on who you know. This is actually what deterred me from joining though I was initially very interested. There are some all around wonderful people (my friends) who are brilliant, kind, and have a great sense of humor but I also get a very snobby vibe from some of them. You should see for yourself and attend some of their events. I have attended many events over the years even though I am not a member myself.
