How hard is it to get into UC Berkeley for Engineering?

Compared to the other majors

Hard

I am not sure UCSD is any easier to get in for engineering.

My friend’s son, who has close to perfect SAT scores, an over 4.0 GPA from a top ranked public high school, is an Eagle Scout, etc (and a CA resident) was recently given his odds of acceptance from his college advisor (who is admittedly conservative on these estimates) at Davis engineering as 25% and Cal as 5%. So it sounds to me like it is pretty darn hard.

Very hard, son didn’t get into Berkeley’s engineering and resumé is similar to post #3^^^, was rejected. Got into Caltech though and UCLA.

Cal’s engineering acceptance rate is 9.7% though

@JessicaWang UCB engineering is near impossible. Reminder that there is limited space, and that they receive thousands, if not tens of thousands of applications every year. I can guarantee you that around 75% of that pool is actually qualified to apply there, but the admissions is looking for the, for lack of a better term, “Berkeley” student. My dad’s coworker’s son declared engineering (or CS, but that’s equally as difficult) when he applied to UCB. He (the son) had a 2300+ SAT, an UW 4.0, was top 5% of his class, made top 20 in Physics Olympiad, and had a bunch of other awards, but was still straight up rejected. Very few people get accepted into this program, and you have to have a certain type of profile to get in.

what is this certain profile

I completely agree with @michelle426. @JessicaWang, how are we to know what that profile is?

Berkeley isn’t saying what profile they are looking for but they reject a lot of great applicants. They get 10’s of thousands of applications from instate and worldwide. No one knows how they accept and reject each years’ class. It is always different. EX: ~3 years ago, they accepted a lot of Eagle and Girl Scouts from our local school district. Last year, not so many.
