How hard is it to keep a 4.0 at UGA?

I plan on going pre-med and I was just wondering how hard it will be to keep a 4.0 at UGA? I had to apply regular decision and I wanted to apply for the honors program, however I wasn't able to because you can't apply for it during regular decision. I need at least a 3.75 my first semester to even be considered for it. I was curious as to how hard it might be to keep a 4.0.

VERY difficult. A 3.75 is manageable, but still very difficult as well. Pre-med classes are notoriously competitive.

Strive to get that 4.0, but don't kill yourself if (most likely when) you don't get it.

At my private college, usually no one graduates with a 4.0. About 3% of each class graduate with a GPA of 3.7 or above.

Honestly, screw the idea of a 4.0. College is more than that. Med schools want you to have a life too.

A 3.75 is very doable with work; that's basically an A- average. So a few B+s or maybe Bs but more As and A-s. That's a lot easier than getting straight As.

If you are referring to University of Georgia I think this is posted in the wrong folder. Go over to the University of Georgia folder for more input from people like me that go there.

It's not easy, but it's doable if you really manage your time and not just study- but what i call effectively studying. Make sure you're studying the best way for the class (ie you can't just read Econ notes to fully understand the material enough to answer questions that test your conceptual understanding of the material).

aherro would also be a good source of information on this question. just ask.

First of all, strive for a 4.0, but don't consider yourself falling short of a goal because you did not attain perfection.

I had a similar goal because I would like to attend an Ivy league law school, and just like Space said, if you really put forth effort into your work, you'll do well.

As for the answer for your post, unless you get incredibly lucky with professors, a 4.0 won't happen. Especially if you're going pre-med with chem and bio, there are some teachers that give 2-3 A's in a 300 person class.
Or English 1101, where you get a teacher that doesn't like your writing style and rapes you on grading all semester long.

I worked hard and got a 3.94 for my freshman year, and if you do the same I'm sure you'll be right there... but as for the 4.0, its more of a myth especially with plus minus than a reality. When you need a 93 in a class for an A instead of the traditional 90, it is so much harder.
