I’m planning on going to UF and doing premed but I’m wondering if it’s is possible to obtain a 4.0. I know it’ll require hard work and dedication but I think I may have what it takes. Any of you go to UF and get a 4.0?
Of course a 4.0 is possible. Whether it is possible for you is a different question.
Do you have a 4.0 in high school? What will your college major probably be?
@happymomof1 my current high school unweighted gpa is a 3.6 which I know is really bad but I don’t try at all or stay for anything but I’m definitely going to change that in college. I’m thinking of maybe microbiology
@happymomof1 study for anything
3.6 is not that bad.
Start studying now. You need to have that skill set already developed before you get to college, or you will suffer much more than you need to while you try to figure out how to get and keep a 4.0.
@happymomof1 ok thank you. Guess I gotta start trying haha
Why is a 4.0 specifically so important to you? 3.8 or 3.9 would be fantastic for med school admissions as well.
It’s very very very hard to get anything above 3.75 in college.
Dedication and hard work will get you a 3.0.
It’s not high school.
Dedication and hard work are pretty much baked in, especially at UF where the tippy too students from Florida go.
Start studying hard right now - you need those ‘muscles’ ready be at championship level before August - they’re already behind if they’ve not been trained before. Just because you want to turn things around in college doesn’t mean it’ll magically happen. It showing to take a lot of hard work between now and August.
Yes, it’s possible. But not needed for med school.
For a stem major, it’s very hard to get above a 3.7. For most other majors, it’s much easier.

So I am currently a junior in high school. My grades have mostly been A’s with a few B’s but I just got my first C ever this semester in pre calculus. UW GPA: 3.5 W: 4.2 (both before this semester). I’m scared that having a C on my transcript will hinder my chances at getting into my dream school UF. PLEASE HELP!! I’m freaking out right now.

Sounds like you need to prove to yourself now whether you can study/work for grades.
Most traditional college students do not earn as high a GPA in college as they do in high school. So if your HS GPA is around 3.5 or 3.6, you need to up your study habits to earn a similar or higher GPA in college.
So very very true. ^^^^^^
Many. 4.0 high school students struggle to get a 3.5+ as a premed.
I graduated from UF in '88 with High Honors and 3.96. Yes it’s possible, just be prepared to study a lot!!! I ended up at Harvard Medical. Best wishes!
^ that’s one person in 30 years. That gives you an idea of what an ordeal you’re talking about. And don’t know his work ethics in high school, he could have had that ‘muscle’ at championship level by senior year.
Doing well in college is a combination of ability and mastering time management. You will have many other things going on. If you treat it like a job and schedule your time properly (based upon your schedule), you’ll be able to accomplish a lot AND participate in many ECs (which is why it’s so fun). It just takes discipline.
But op has said that so far he’s not had any discipline. And discipline is much easier in highschool than in college. So, op has an uphill battle and is using 'adolescent magic thinking, ie., if I really want it I’ll make it happen .
