I received the regents scholarship which is renewable yearly provided I maintain a 3.0 gpa. I need this money to attend, so I have to get a 3.0 every quarter until I graduate. Is this realistic? How difficult will this be? I am a hard worker but not exceptionally bright. My major is pre-business. I will have to have a job during school.
You would not have been offered the scholarship if your record did not suggest promise that you can maintain the minimum GPA. If you really want to take advantage of the scholarship, then you need to always remember that your performance depends on it. Your priority has to be your studies, and all the little choices that you make everyday will determine whether or not that 3.0 is a reality for you or not. You don’t go to the movies with your friends or to a party when you have work that needs to be done. This is not just in college but also in real life. Kids that do fun things and do well in school, plan for both.
It all depends on your work ethic and responsibility level honestly. 3.0 should be fairly easy if you sincerely commit to studying and studying only. I know that sounds geeky and nerdy, but it the long run its totally worth it. Good luck and I know you can do it.
It should not be difficult to maintain a 3.0 GPA at UCR. The competition there is not like the competition at UCB or UCLA. If you find your GPA slipping, just study harder.
