I recently was admitted as undeclared despite applying for computer science. Is it worth a shot or is it too much of a gamble?
As did I^
When I first saw my portal, I thought I accidentally applied as Undeclared. It’s weird because it doesn’t say anywhere that I’m admitted to Undeclared instead of Computer Science, my original major.
@jlev96, just out of curiosity, what other schools/UCs did you get accepted into for CS?
Anyway, I would love it if someone from UCI/knows UCI well can gives us advice…
Here is information to change your major:

I am always cautious, so I would consider the schools that you have already been accepted for CS.
@samlikeswhales
UCF - Accepted for CS
UF - Accepted for CS
Georgia Tech - Accepted for CS
Cal Poly - Accepted for CS
UC Davis - Accepted for CS
UC San Diego - Accepted Undeclared
UC Santa Barbara - Waitlisted
UC Irvine - Accepted Undeclared
@Gumbymom that doesn’t explain how difficult it is to actually be admitted to the CS major
@jlev96 wow congratulations!! Weird that you got accepted into SD and waitlisted to SB… I was accepted to SB but not SD haha.
@samlikeswhales ya thanks. Congrats to you too. I just really want to know if it’s worth going to the UC’s if I’m undeclared. Like idk if I’ll be able to get into the CS major
@jlev96: I was unable to find any information on the difficulty of changing majors from Undeclared to CS. I would imagine that slots open up after students change their major from CS to ? or if they cannot handle the workload. I know at UCSD and UCSB, changing from Undeclared is very difficult. Both sons have friends that have tried in the past 2 years and ended up in a less competitive major such as Statistics or Math. Since UCI has a College dedicated to CS, it may be easier to change majors vs CS in the College of Engineering?? Sorry I cannot be anymore help.
@Gumbymom so would I be better off not going to a UC
@jlev96: I didn’t say not to go to a UC, I said you should go to a school where you are a direct admit into CS. You got into UCD and SLO which are great schools. I personally would choose SLO for CS but I love UCD as an overall school. SLO’s CS program I believe is stronger. You also need to like the school itself, not just the CS program since you are spending 4 years there as a student. You have some excellent choices but if you want to gamble, then you can try to change majors at any of the other UC’s. It is all up to you. Visit on admitted students day’s and see if you can talk to some of the CS professors. Good Luck.
