I am intended to go to McGill Electrical Engineering, and I heard there is about 20% failure rate.
Can anyone give me an approximate distribution of its GPA range in engineering program?
for example, have 4.0 is top 2%, have 3.8+ is 10% ... (just example)

No idea, but I knew some engineers and they’re some of the brightest kids at McGill. Its extremely tough, but the kids i knew did very well so it is possible.

I do not think any such statistics are publicly available.

Engineering is a difficult subject anywhere.

In EE, the 20-30% failure rate probably refers to first year courses like circuit analysis. I do not believe this percentage is particular to McGill, it simply reflects the fact that many first year engineering students are not motivated enough or simply not suited for the subject.

For what it’s worth I know people who finished EE with A/A- averages and also C/C+ averages. The main difference between the two was the desire and ability to do a lot of consistent work versus a little bit of last minute cramming.

it’s hard work. I’m in mechanical, but a few courses overlap and the trend with engineering is common:

-work hard, you’ll succeed. Nothing in engineering is difficult, it just requires dedication to the courses and a genuine interest and curiosity as “fuel” to keep you going through even the crappy dry stuff.
-those who fail don’t fail because they’re stupid, it’s because they didn’t put the effort required in. If you get in, you can do well, and you will learn how to quickly.
