How hard is MMSS?

How hard is it?

Anyone have any MMSS info?

It was hard when I did it 20 years ago, but that's not going to help you today :-) It's an honors program at a top 20 school ....

I am wondering about this too. Out of curiosity, what are you doing now pizzagirl?

I was in MMSS in its early days, when it was housed in a little building off Sheridan close to Foster-Walker and there were maybe 15 students per class in the program. Prof Dacey who passed away recently was the head of the program. I worked in a Fortune 30 corp in a research capacity and now work in mgt consulting in a particular niche area. My classmates did all different things - many went into academia, some went into public policy, one of them worked for Madeline Albright doing work in Croatia, etc. My observation (though it's an observation at a distance) was that 20 years ago, it was the "straight" econ majors at NU who got all the hot jobs, the banking jobs, mgt consulting jobs, etc. and the MMSS students were more focused on social sciences and policy. It was somewhat of an obscure major. From what I understand these days, it's a lot hotter of a major and the MMSS students are the hot commodities now in terms of getting the jobs, but it also seems a lot more preprofessional.
If you go to the internal MMSS website, you can see the theses that we all had to write listed by year (not the actual thesis, but the titles) and I think you can see a shift in the topics over the years. My thesis was a very academic one with few real-life applications. It was more of a math-geek program back them.
